Non Muslims: anyone of you going to fast?

I want Khilafah back
Unless you're ill, or require mediaction etc etc :p

yes thats what i said.

Out of interest, in your country is there a "penalty" for someone who fits in the "able" criteria and doesn't fast/participate in Ramadan rituals etc etc?

never heard of such cases. it doesn't happen.

Also, what actually is "Ramadan"? Is it the name for August?

ramadan is the name of the 9th islamic month. we use a lunar calendar (the moon) and the rest of the world uses a solar calendar (the sun).

Oh I get it, so it's not that you start on the 21/22nd day of Ramadan, but that Ramadan itself happens (atleast this year) at sometime around the 21/22nd of August? So then there is no actual "day of Ramadan", because Ramadan itself is the Lunar month, and the rituals/fasting takes place over the entire month, rather thna just one day in that lunar month?

ramadan start at the siting of the new crescent moon.

we see the moon and thats when ramadan starts. our 24 hour days start from the night then go into the day, hence the moon siting.

and yes the fasting takes place during the entire month untill the new moon appeares.

But "fasting" is more than just sacrificing food/water between sunrise/set, it also includes other things like doing leisure activities and watching TV too, right?

nope wrong again i'm affraid.

we can go out, play sport, etc etc.

we aren't allowed to have sexual relations during the day, we aren't allowed to get into fights, and a few more things such as eating and drinking.

Oh right, I guess the rules vary from country to country. There are some Britsh Muslims that have told me in the past that you cannot even watch TV or use a computer lol - I thought I had found the answer as to why I've not seen many Muslims on RF in the past few days lol ^^

So, there's not gonna be many of you Muslims on RF for a whole month, starting either tomorrow or the day after?

happy ramadan to everyone in RF who shall fast, may Allah (swt) make your fasting easy inshallah and may it also be easy upon all those who shall fast in this blessed month.

i'm out of here for a few weeks untill all of this is over, i hope to see everyone back and hear all about how you went.

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace be upon him), who said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:

Fasting is Mine and it I who give reward for it. [A man] gives up his sexual passion, his food and his drink for my sake. Fasting is like a shield, and he who fasts has two joys: a joy whin he breaks his fast and a joy when he meets his Lord. The change in the breath of the mouth of him who fasts is better in Allah's estimation than the smell of musk. It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim, Malik, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).

On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: Allah the Almighty said:

O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it. It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal). Its chain of authorities is sound.

let us ask Allah (swt) for forgiveness in this blessed month and let's hope that he forgives us for the sins which we have commited.

selamu alaykum to all and ramadan mubarak
