North Korea says UN sanctions an act of war

So did the UN declare war on North Korea with the recent sanctions? Given how often North Korea calls things acts of war, it doesn't seem particularly worrisome at this point.

I just posted my own thread about this. I wasn't even aware of it. Lol

I think it's time to finish this war and remove Kimmy ding dong from power alive or dead.

I do feel for the North Korean people themselves. It's my opinion they don't deserve this kind of government they are enduring. My impression is that the citizenry themselves are peaceful and friendly natured people, and I hope they get out of this in relatively one piece.

The best scenerio will be mass defections and just allow us to get Kimmy out of power for good and make sure he never ever runs a brutal totalitarian country again.

North Koreans are always declaring war but they're just full of empty threats. Never have they actually carried out with it. Like Nowhere Man said I feel for the North Korean people as they are the victims in all this. Somehow sometime things will have to change, but it's probably unlikely still.

That's a possibility given the empty rhetoric of re-engaging war from North Korea.

Still something needs to be done.

Shooting missiles over your adversaries and all, and threatening environmental disasters from all the nuclear testing with no signs of stopping isn't exactly a good thing.

North Korea comes across as a country touting defensive posturing by creating an image of Kim's country as being dangerous to invade. But I sometimes imagine a what if scenario where Kim had the equivalent military power of Nazi Germany, given his personality what do you think he would do?

When you think about it the United Nations was created to address things like this, and help prevent rouge countries from strengthening themselves to a point where it would be a far worse situation later than earlier.

Oh yeah definitely, but I feel like no one really wants to touch this whole North Korean thing with a ten foot pole. If I was president (ha), I'd like to come up with some contingency but... I'm not. Lol. We're reliant on what the people up top have to say about it. Trump may be just as reckless as Kim Jong Un but at least he's taking some preliminary steps.

I think you're right about what if it was the equivalent of Nazi Germany... but it's not like that ended well, with the nuclear attack to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Perhaps they're trying to avoid the same outcome. Nuclear missiles are like a thing to wave around these days and say "look how big my **** is"... but not to actually use them. (Well, thank deity for that).

I guess we just have to maintain faith in them, and do what little we can from our corner of the world.

I'm sure they'll welcome us as liberators.

How'd that work out last time

Let Trump doodle on Kim Jongs face then litter bomb the country with it. To see if he calls it an act of war.

Oh it will be more than us. I'm sure Japan and South Korea will be proactive in the effort. China is supportive as well although there would likely be conditions for an invasion. Russia is a wild card but i suspect they will remain tempered. It's not like the old days of the USSR anymore.

Considering the NK defections across the DMZ of late and the medical and psychological conditions of the soldiers, I would think liberation would be welcome.

North Korea is isolated from the world and from childhood people are educated to worship their "Dear Leader" like a god and that the USA is evil. Being welcomed as liberators is something that won't happen without decades of re-education and rebuilding - it's something no nation in the world wants to do right now.

I am willing to bet that even after all the sanctions are imposed Kim Jong-Un will not lose a pound.

Crazies are hard to predict.
At some point, the threat might become more than empty.
Let's hope that behind the public bluster on all sides, that
some diplomatic solution lurks behind the scenes.

1.2 million people died, the entire physical infrastructure of a nation was destroyed by 635k tons of artillery, vast swaths of the country were made unliveable, a powerful and vicious authoritarian government was put in place, and ever since them we have ruthlessly mocked them for their continued suffering, while constantly threatening to do it again.

The idea of us marching in to "liberate" a place where we have previously attempted genocide, and actually being welcomed, is absurd. Even if it needs doing, the US can have nothing to do with it. These defectors are heading for South Korea, not the US.

One has to also keep in mind that these declarations are part of the mind control that the "government" of North Korea uses to keep it's population cowed and in check. In my view, these ravings are more for public consumption within North Korea, to keep them fearful, than they are a warning to the outside world.

It happened many times with Iran, for example. Business as usual, called , scare them all...

I'm not sure how old you are, but the "they'll welcome us as liberators" is a reference to the rhetoric used in the lead up to the Iraq invasion. Both the public and the military were told we'd be welcomed as liberators. Almost 20 years of continuous fighting later, turns out invading people and unilaterally enforcing regime change from without doesn't always go down well with the locals.

Of course. And that's the filter people always need to view North Korea through. When NK makes threats and blusters, it's for the consumption of North Koreans, not the people the threat is allegedly against.

Saying "we'll nuke Guam" is to make North Koreans feel good about themselves and their leadership, not to actually, you know, threaten Guam. People really need to stop taking this stuff at face value.

Could you provide an example of this happening?

They seem t be the one declared war on.

“However, last weekend Trump claimed that our leadership won’t be around much longer, and hence at last he declared war on our country,” Ri said, speaking to journalists through an interpreter outside the UN general assembly in New York. “Given the fact that this came from someone who holds the seat of the US presidency, this is clearly a declaration of war.”

Oh, I know it. It was my generation that got sent to fight that war. Pointless waste.

Wasn't new rhetoric, though; they tried it at the start of the Korean War, too. Even as we slaughtered thousands and burned whole forests to the ground, we were also dropping 20 milion leaflets promising a better world without communist "oppression" and the glorious new life awaiting anyone who defected to our side. Generals promised that the "hearts and minds" of the populace would be with us as soon as they saw through the lies of the communists.

Recommend Casey's book "Selling the Korean War".

If there's anything the citizens of North Korea could hate more than the conditions they currently live in, it would be the Yankees going anywhere near their country again.
I'm sure their national pride is strong under their beloved and benevolent supreme leader.
