Nothing To Fear If You've Nothing To Hide

Hermit Philosopher

Selflessly here for you
The main problem with intrusion is that we accept it because of poor reasoning.

We may accept intrusion if we believe that it will “ensure our safety”, but we can only believe this by ignoring that any method of intrusion that is in place, can be high jacked by a/the threat itself; giving it access to information with which to harm us beyond comprehension.

We may accept intrusion if we believe that we have “nothing to hide”, but we can only believe this by incorrectly assuming:
  • that we will always know the “intruder”
  • that the “intruder” we know will always be trustworthy
  • that we will always share -or at least approve of- that “intruder’s” interests in us and in what we do.
Yet, in the event that the “intruder” is a government: how can you know that you will always be a law-abiding citizen with “nothing to hide”, when both laws and governments + their interests change?

Would you inform on your fellow citizens…? Surely, no one of sane mind could agree to do so without knowing what sort of information was in question?!:
  • The immigrant without correct documentation?
  • The teen who went for an abortion?
  • The dude smoking weed in the evenings?
  • The gay couple down the road?
  • The mixed race couple next door?
  • The person of faith?
  • The atheist?
If you replied no to informing on any of those (or on anything else that one dark day could be deemed an issue of “concern”), you could very will be at risk of not forever remaining a law-abiding citizen with “nothing to hide” - and the more methods of intrusion we’ve together approved, the more buggered you will be.

Even if you've "nothing to hide", allowing intrusion with impunity would be a steep, slippery slope. Do you trust that such power would never be abused or exploited to your detriment?

I would hope the law holds. I look at it this way, there are almost 70 million people in france. If they want to waste time on me and mine thats there choice, i have good legal council and privacy laws in france are well defined.

They law may hold but there may be "law enforcers" that don't hold to the law.
privacy laws in france are well defined.
As they are in Germany. But, as has happened, if you are a journalist and/or lawyer persecuting fascists, and a cop happens to be friends with those fascists, your personal data is just a few keystrokes away from being revealed to the wrong people.

Sooooooooo......

Would that by perchance, fully apply specifically to those framing this wonderful type of esteemed legislation?

I'm sure it does. Lead by example you know.
Some people, when they become powerful leaders,
imagine that they're above the laws for the little folk.
