Now I'm totally, categorically, completely and unequivocally disgusted with myself

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
It's not how much we eat that is the problem, it is what we eat that causes us trouble.
I eat 2 to 4000 calories a day depending on my activity, with no meat or processed foods included.

I agree. I'm really disliking chemically modified foods. I'd swear processers put addictive additives in so you are compulsed to buy and consume more product.

I think you're right. It's the sugar and salt too. That's another thing I'm working on and think I made good progress, especially since I've been learning Indian cooking.:
  • No cold cuts except cheese and sliced (real) turkey.
  • No bacon, sausage or other mammalian flesh.
  • Canned goods are limited to vegetables and broth of the low sodium variety.
  • Non-sugary whole grain cereal.
  • My guilty pleasures are some frozen foods like the little Banquet frozen pot pies or Gorton's and Mrs. Paul's fish. Come to think of it, other than that I really don't have boxed foods in my shopping cart.

It looks like I'm going to be doing some patting myself on the back. :) The Apple Watch I got as part of my phone upgrade is proving to be more than just a toy. It's recording my movements, when I sit and stand, heart rate, steps, distance I walk, and a few other metrics. It transmits it to the Apple Health app on the phone, which in turn syncs with Weight Watchers. The Map My Walk and Gym Hero apps interface with Facebook, where I post log entries for all the world to see. It's good motivation as some friends and family cheer me on.

Nerdy is as nerdy does. :D

I lost 3" off my belly, not pants size, just around my belly at navel level. Instead of my pants sliding down below my navel, and my belly protruding and developing a Dunlop Effect (da belly dun lop over da belt) my pants are actually sitting at my navel, and my shirt is staying tucked in.

I haven't lost any scale weight, but the 3" off my belly is significant. I have at least 8" to go, which is about 35-40 lbs. I'm currently 225, my goal is 185-190.

I've been walking 2.5 - 3 miles a couple of times a week, weight lifting 3 times a week. It will be 4 times once I add legs back in. I do a legs, push (chest & triceps), pull (back & biceps), shoulders & triceps (tris 2x/week) split.

I'm quite encouraged. :)

If the data that the Apple Watch and my Gym Hero tracking app has been gathering is correct I've been burning an extra 3,500 - 3,800 calories per week. My daily calorie intake per the Weight Watchers app is about 1,900 calories. The scale isn't showing any real change, but my clothes and appearance are. I've had a lot of energy and have been feeling a lot better about myself. I've gotten comments on how I've been dressing. I'm rarely wearing t shirts and jeans lately, it's polos and dress shirts, dress slacks and khakis.

Today I seem to have outdone myself by wearing a white shirt, black pants (always a winning combo), burgundy shoes and belt, and... [drumroll] a necktie. ;) OK, I don't have the collar buttoned (I'm rocking that easy-going laid-back look yet put together look :D), but I haven't worn a tie to work in a bazillion years. It's not required, but I did it just because. I've had people giving me up-and-down looks and saying "you really look nice today!" I won't do it too often because it gets old, especially not being the business norm, but I feel pretty good about it.

Little short for a Viking, aren't you?

Never too short for Heathenism. I used to be a full on Heathen (among other regrettable things) and I'm 5'4. It's the long blonde hair that counts.

I'm in the opposite situation as OP. I am 105-110 lbs (approximately 49 kilos) at the aforementioned height. I struggle to eat; I almost hate it. I'm counting macros and going for 2,800 calories a day, but that goal is painstaking to reach.

It turns out I was wrong about my height. I'm actually closer to 5' 6". I asked someone at Home Depot to settle it once and for all and measure my height properly. An inch is an inch!

My hair is silver now, but because I'm bald on top I shave it. It was a sort of auburn when I was young, my beard, which is also silver-white used to be dark brown. Auburn hair, believe it or not, is actually a northern European trait. It appears in the Mediterranean area due to Viking and Norman influence.

Well, I'm pleased to announce that over the past 2 weeks I am down 3.2 lbs, an average of 1.6 lbs/week. I have ~32 lbs to go, goal is ~190, ideally is 185. I've lost 3-4” off my belly so far, ~6-8” to go. I try to get 5-6 days of road walking, ~3-3 1/2 mph, and 3-4 days of weight training. Small steps I'm pleased with. It shows I can do it. :)

I thought I was 5'2 or 5'3 until I used an actual carpentry tape measure. My height actually ranges from a little under 5'4 to almost 5'5 after a good night's sleep. Medical tape measures aren't very accurate, nor are they standardized. They are used to get a general idea of one's height.

I'm going for over 4100 calories now. I wasn't gaining much on 2800.

Do you track macros?

Do you track macros?

Not really. I tried doing that in the past with all kinds of tools, but I only drove myself to distraction. Now I'm following Weight Watchers (I did it in the past with success). Occasionally I dissect a day's worth of Smart Points® and tally up the macros. I just try to keep fat on the lower end, and carbs and protein about moderate and equal, though I tend towards carbs.

I'm not dropping a whole lot of scale weight, but my clothes are fitting infinitely better. I'm wearing pants today that are looser than they were a few weeks ago. Back then I could barely close them, having them slide under my belly. Now they sit at my navel. :)

I like to think I'm making progress. I am still not losing scale weight but I have lost about 4" from my belly, gained back 1/2" on my arms (16 1/2" cold flexed), my legs are getting tighter from all the walking. I average 5-6 days a week, anywhere from .5 - 3.5 miles, at about 3+ mph. And of course, there is the gym and my weight lifting. I bought a whole boatload of new shirts and a few pants from Kohls. I love their Croft & Barrow line of dress shirts, very inexpensive, nicely made and well-fitting; I've been getting compliments on how I'm dressing. Yeah, maybe because I'm feeling good about myself. ;) One day I'll post a before and after pic or two. You've been warned. :D

Motoring along making progress with the help of my strength patrons and inspirations... Hanuman and Thor. I've been feeling a draw towards Herakles too, but he seems a little aloof. He’s always been the brooding type.

Anyway...

Not much loss on the scale but pants have been going to the tailor, 5-6” off the belly. My suit pants, which would not close even when under my belly now sit just about at my navel. One more inch and they will fit as they used to. :) But I’d like them a tad looser.

I’m not going for six-pack abs: quite honestly I like a bit of a bear belly along with muscle. As long as my pain management doctor doesn’t give me grief about it, that’s about as far as I want to take it. By then I calculate I will have lost about 40 lbs, net. I think I’ve lost about 25-30 lbs so far. I’ve gained back almost 1” on my arms, and a heck of a lot on the weights. :)

That, and having overhauled my clothes closet makes me feel pretty good about getting dressed.
