Obama Commutes Chelsea(Bradley) Manning's Sentence

The Obama has commuted the remaining sentence of Manning. The person who was convicted of an enormous 2010 leak that revealed American military and diplomatic activities across the world, disrupted the administration and made WikiLeaks, the recipient of those disclosures, famous.

Now with all of the uproar over the Russian's hacking a private organization the Obama seems to think that what the Manning did wasn't really bad. Does the Obama really have the US intelligence agency back? Doesn't appear so now does it.

Is it possible that Obama felt the sentence excessive so reduced it himself?
Seems you are trying to make a mountain out a mole hill.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It's not often that the Obama administration has shown any mercy in its orientation toward freedom of information.
Oh, you mean like his approval of the released emails of the DNC and John Podesta.

I think this is a step in the right direction. Snowden next? Anyway, what do you think of his decision as a whole?

I am happy for Manning, he was very brave for what he did but at the same time I am I know this is a ploy of Obama to one up Trump before he looses power. It is not a bad move but I know that Obama does not mean this out of empathy or compassion, he is using Manning as a tool and wants him to be release soon when Trump steps in office.

Obama is perhaps one of the most deceitful and dishonest presidents but he won't be the last for the foreseeable future. I do wish Manning gets psychological treatment though, it pains me to see a man like this succumb to his demons.

Yeah it's pretty terrible that they forced her into conditions were she tried to kill herself multiple times.
Fix your pronouns and be respectful. Her identity is not a mental illness.

You meant him, he, and him. Also his identity is a mental illness like any other identity disorder. We all suffer from something and not everybody has the same sufferings as others. It does not mean I have to degrade him through his delusions.

. . . If you wish to talk about this elsewhere then do so. I do not wish to derail this thread, especially since it is so new.

If you can read this, you are as lucky as I am.
Assange said he'd turn himself in to US authority if we pardoned Manning.

For better or for worse, Manning has been pardoned. Now it's up to Assange to show the world that he's the man of principle that Trump claims him to be.

But, but, but the majority of those here have been against Wikileaks releasing the DNC and Podesta emails. What is the difference between the two?

I'll wager your left one (if you aliens have left ones) that
Snowden & Assange don't receive Obama's grace.
I know better than to take that bet! And yes, we have three lefts, two rights. It is like a regular rack of pool balls down there.

Assange would be a fool to keep such a promise,
& be subject to Trump's flavor of justice.

Snowden is probably way more likely than Assange. The US isn't the only country where Assange is wanted, so even if Obama offered him asylum, there is the issue of just getting here.

Assange, from what I've gathered, was rather paranoid before Wikileaks. Granted it's now been many years since I have actually looked into the issue, but last I knew Assange he was rather jumpy, and safe in whatever embassy he's holed up in. I don't see him leaving that any time soon.
