I would definitely call things like the Colbert Report a piece of liberal media. Even Jon Stewart stated, on air, he has a bias towards Democrats.
Don't ruin my joke with Tytlyf!
You guys have the Cato Institute.
They aren't media such as Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, Wa Po, NPR.
As a think tank, they'll sometimes provide guests & papers, but they've no radio/TV station or newspaper.

I served over 22 years as a police officer.
I don't recall when but courts stopped using the Bible to swear in witnesses long ago.
Here, I haven't seen th courts do it in a long while.
But in depositions, one still must ask for a secular oath.
I did.

I'll tell the truth, but I ain't bow'n down to nobody's sky fairy!
There......I feel better now.

Read it, and it fails to mention that state law cannot contradict federal law, nor does it mention that the Constitution wasn't meant to be a static document set in stone forever in time.
It also makes it clear that as time has progressed, there have been further separations. And, today, in my experience, merging state and church means lost civil rights and liberties, for education it means teaching religious mythos as science, and it fails to acknowledge the pluralistic nature of our society where we have the freedom to worship as we please. Why should an Atheist, or a Satanist, or a Wiccan be forced by state law to adhere to Judaeo-Christian law? Why should one denomination establish their denomination as law while others have to take a back seat? Keeping religion out of the state makes things so much easier and simpler.

Yes I think so, ergo I tend to agree.

Freedom of religion? What did our founding fathers want?
Why did the pilgrims come to this land?
Freedom from religious persecution. NOT freedom from God.
Well, the cold war is over with the Soviet Union. I don't think the phrase is really needed anymore in a govermental official capacity.

I do think individual faith should be upheld ie talisman, clothing and such. The Goverment shouldn't ban a person's personal choice over religion. That includes Goverment workers as long as it dosent affect their duties.

I don't see any mentioning of Obama in there.

Well executed comment and very observant.
There isn't any mention of Bam-Bam in that post.:D

Frankly I must admit (choke, gasp) that Obama WILL go down in history as a great
potus.
O.K. as a conservative leaning voter I kinda like the man.
THERE! I SAID IT!:confused::confused:

If ya'll haven't figured it out by now I lean so far to the right that I walk
lop sided.:D
(that's a joke by the way.)

I don't think he'll be remembered as a great president, but rather a president that marked a definitive shift in America politics. History will still recall his continued assaults on the Middle East, his continuation of the PATRIOT act, and other nasty bits, but he'll definitely be remembered for acknowledging those of varying faiths, including atheists, as citizens.

Right. The reason I asked was because I wasn't sure if it was relating to the title of the thread.

I'm not so convinced myself. I think there will be quite a lot of criticism coming his way through time. Especially regarding the (not so-)affordable healthcare act.

O.K. as a conservative leaning voter I kinda like the man.

I'm moderate with libertarian leanings myself.

Yes^^^^^^^^^^.
Obamacare is a tough nut to crack and a hard swallow for us that lean to the
right and have worked all our lives to get the health care we have.
Though I'm a disabled copper I pay 1/4th my health care out of pocket.
Still better than NOT having it as I got crippled on the job.
Not trolling for sympathy. I walk got 2 college degrees and retired again from G.M.
Just saying..............................
Ohio worker comp is supposed to cover my "work related" injuries but one must
FIGHT them all the time, hire a lawyer, and wait and wait and wait............
I had to have surgery so I could walk again and was forced to get a loan and
pay up front as workers comp took FIVE years to pony up the bucks.
Bastages!
I walk just fine and do well.:D

@jeager106,

My best friend is a early retired cop. He had to leave early because of injuries in duty. Workers comp was the worst thing they had to go through. Really difficult, and doesn't cover a fraction of the procedures. It sucks.

Around here, there are hospitals and medical specialist closing. Can't afford it anymore, and too much paperwork. If you're forced to hire more staff for office work while getting less money for your medical services, will it somehow make it easier? No. It doesn't. So no wonder they're closing and moving from here.

As a fire-breathing liberal, I believe that God has made America exceptional and that we're destined to lead the world by example. I'm happy to have God mentioned in the Pledge. I have a bit of a preference to removing the word God from money given that money is a dark idol that many worship. As far as taking oaths goes, one should swear by whatever one honors most highly be it a word for divinity or one's spouse.

I'm not sure what that makes me

Not Religious
There are no "liberal" media, but there are "conservative" media.
Got it!
Yes, most media is moderate, RW media is far right and focuses on scare tactics.
I wonder why liberals don't use the conservative tactic of having some media under their wing?
Are they too virtuous or just not that bright?
LW media is a myth to divide people and control the message. RW media scares people into never turning the channel, hence, controlling the message.
Btw, we don't have "libertarian" media because we're just too incompetent.
You do have libertarian media, it's the same as RW media. If you were to poll all libertarians, they would say they vote overwhelmingly republican. It's the cool thing for some.

Freedom from religious persecution. NOT freedom from God.
Even if this were true (and I doubt the president has the power to order this), this would be religious non-favoritism, not anti-God. The government is supposed to remain neutral on religious matters, so that no one's religious opinion appears slighted.

This is what our founding fathers wanted -- a "wall of separation between church and state," as Jefferson put it. Some of the founders feared religion would corrupt government, others feared the opposite, and everyone feared the not too distant religious wars and political strife that had wracked Europe in religion's name.

The Pilgrims didn't flee persecution. They had already separated themselves from the English church. They came here to establish religious persecution; to found a Calvinist theocracy where other religions were not permitted and any dissent was prohibited -- exactly what the founding fathers did not want.
They hated freedom.

Removing government supported religious statements is not anti-religious favoritism. It's religious neutrality; religious disinterest.
