Then why is Obama carrying on with many of the Bush policies everyone has been railing against?

no one gives up power once they have it. im no obama apologist, i didnt vote for the guy, and i dont particularly think he deserved the prize more than anyone else. but he isnt bush, and thats something, even if its not much.

Given that Henry Kissinger and Yasser Arafat have won the Peace prize no reassessment is needed.

how so?

kissinger got it for the Paris peace accords in 1972.

Arafat got it along with Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin in 1994 for the Oslo accords.

so givern those facts i think i am justified in asking what's your point?

The USA political system ensures that things can not change simply because the executive wants it to. It has to get through both houses first, and god knows how many inquiries and committees.
Some things he wants to change will get stuck, some will eventually get through.

He is not simply changing past policy... he hast to fight the system to do it.
The legislature is very experienced at blocking even essential changes.

Yes lets ignore all the other travesties committed by those men. That single action means they should get a Peace prize.

well obviously that's how the Nobel committee felt, so how about Obama what single action has he performed that would have a similar impact on the committee? I am not justifying anyone's award or decrying Obamas, just trying to understand it.

I don't really think he has earned it yet... and while the committee obviously thinks that he's awesome, I think he should have turned it down. I get why they gave it to him, and no, I don't think it's because he's not Bush. I think it simply is premature, because we really don't know what he will do in the future. We're not mind readers.

There is remarkably little to understand about the Peace Prize. Its a sham, and any prestige that comes with it is entirely unwarranted.
