Obama's Speech to School Kids

You know, all it really gets down to is that a lot of people just flat out hate Obama. It wasn't his message to the kids those people were worried about. They were worried that their kids might hear the speech, recognize that there was a worthwhile message in it and not hate the President as much as they do. That is the bottom line.

Thats what I've basically been trying to say all along, but people who like Obama just think that we are racist for just not liking him. It has nothing to do with whether or not his politics are differant than other democrats; we just dont like him...end of story.

The speech is all over with and now we're dissecting particular words from a 10 minute speech to give credence to our phobias....Get over it....please..better yet...get over yourselves.

oops...was that too harsh....?

So what about him -- aside from his politics -- don't you like?

I dont really like how arragant he is that everything that we have in this country is wrong and can be fixed by his bills that he passes

If you agreed with the bills he would like to see passed, you probably would see him as self-confident rather than as arrogant. Since his speech to students had nothing to do with any of these bills, what harm to you believe hearing it would have done to American students?

hmmm...For the same reasons that LA lakers fans think that Kobe is self confident and everyone else thinks hes arragant....I never thought of it like that.

I am an American student :D and I never thought it was a big deal. I was ok with hearing it, but I think my school got out before the speech, so i didnt hear it. I basically think that these people are irrational and hateful...much more so than me...or even my dad who hates Obama.

Well, a lot of what we see is a matter of perspective.

I basically think that these people are irrational and hateful...much more so than me...or even my dad who hates Obama.
So how did your dad feel about it? Was he opposed to it being shown or did he not care?

If he was going in front of students talking about his plan for America, Iraq, Afghanistan, abortion, gay/lesbian........I might have a problem with it.

If he went in front of them speaking on staying in school, do their best, be the best student they can be, give back to their community, do right by their parents, teachers and themselves....YOU KNOW.....THE SAME THING WE TELL THEM ....then I don't see what the problem is.

His politics are pretty much mainstream Democrat. How in particular do you think his politics diverge from that? In fact, he's a bit on the centrist/compromise side, if anything.

When did President Obama every say that everything in this country is wrong or can be fixed by bills? Have you been listening to Rush Limbaugh or something? Don't you know he's a Big Fat Liar?

really? Well, I thought that he wants to "Spread the wealth around" I think that this is stupid, but thats just me. I mean more? We dont need any more taxes. Especially on upper middle class. My dad already pays 44% in taxes. That seems a little much to take 44% of his income....but I never said that he was differant than other democrats...actually I have said it repeatedly...:ignore:...and repeatedly...:ignore:....and repeatedly....:ignore:....I have also said not to put words in my mouth:ignore:....

As you know Autoadict, I think almost all politicians are liars. Fact is that I dont trust them. I need to SEE the actual bill, not hear what he says it will do....havent we been here before? My usual, "Almost all politicians are scumbags and shouldnt be trusted?" Or do my right wing tendencies just make it sound like "BLA BLA BLA BLA OBAMA BLA BLA POLITICS BLA BLA BLA BLA DONT TRUST BLA BLA BLA"? :ignore:

Dirty Penguin, You are absolutely right, People blew the whole speech thing waaay out of proportion. It was really ridiculous, especially because I'm a kid, and I wanted to hear the speech...but didnt get to because my school gets out at 2:15...and I guess the speech was later than that? Was it  ?

To a degree I think you're right. But take this into consideration......We as a country waste a lot of money on crappy programs that don't work. If you revamp or get rid of programs that are ineffective and/or costly to the American people you can "spread the wealth". Now you can take that money and put it towards a program or programs that are working but may be underfunded and could do a lot more if given the proper resources. I've seen nowhere in his budget plan him simply taking from the rich and giving to the poor. It doesn't work that way nor is it that simple.

Why? The current tax structure in place was set before he got in office. Your dad may be taxed under a system set by those he probably voted for to, on his behalf, represent him thus adopting the current tax structure that has him paying 44%.

Before Obama took office...tell me how we we were/are paying for the war(s) over seas? We're feeling it now. How much more can we afford to borrow from other countries...?

I work in a local school system and have close ties to three other counties and I can tell you...where I work we showed it over two days. The students were fine with it and we didn't hear a peep from the parents. The other surrounding school systems, especially the one my son attends, showed it and no uproar there. There just wasn't anything to complain about.....

Hmm... that method of spreading the wealth around sounds ok, but I still think that we need to get back to the basics. Balance the budget, and make some tax cuts.

Yeah, my dads taxes were like that with Bush in office, because he really wasn't a conservative. It was pretty much just a label that people put on him.....or that he put on himself

Yeah, people can be drama queens

Done here.
yes. Uppity is a better word than arragant. plus it sounds cooler :beach:
I think you missed the point, which is probably just as well. Maybe it means the phrase to which stranger was alluding isn't well known among young people.
