Who will be the next President of the United States? We will find out in 2008. Until election night, lets discuss/defend/debate/promote our candidates. I figured that since so many candidates have already declared and begun their campaigns, we should start the thread to discuss the election.

So who do you support? Why? Who is going to win?

Everything to do with the election is fair game...

I think it will be interesting to see how everyone's views evolve over the course of the election. What frontrunners now will disappear later? What unknowns will move to the front?

I think right now, I am supporting Mitt Romney. I am not terribly happy about the stuff that Maize has mentioned about him so I am not terribly committed but I am a little partial because he is a mormon. I just don't really like any of the candidates that much right now. Mitt is the one I can stand the most....

Nader, but he is not on the list.

I'll also have to do some more research. I hate Clinton's view on media censorship. Most of the Republicans are too conservative.
If it comes down to whoever and Obama, I will give Obama a sympathy vote, and I really don't want to see a Republican in office again.

I don't know. My short list is Richardson, Biden, Romney, Guliani, and McCain. The only ones who I have ruled out are Obama and Kucinich. I probably wouldn't consider Gore again either.

I think he would make a good leader, but I don't know if I want my faith to become the center of the presidential debate. If he wins the nomination, I'll likely vote for him. If he doesn't win it, I'll be alright with that also.

I'm not voting in any primary elections because Utah makes you declare a party to participate. I think that's a stupid rule (I prefer how things are/were done in Washington), but I'll live with it. My conscience won't let me affiliate myself with either party.

Sorry Luke, He was on the list but I needed an "other" option... the poll only lets 15 choices. I wasn't sure what to do...

I thought it would kind of be fun to have our religion discussed so much if mitt gets the nomination. It couldn't hurt to clear up all the crazy idea's people have about our church.

I agree about Utah. I didn't ever declare a party when I lived there.

Exactly and if that's all that gets accomplished by him running then I think that's enough for now.

Who will win ???
Well I think people will overlook the Mormon thing and look at the issues involved and vote for the candidate who best represents his/her stance on certain issues like abortion, BLGT rights, gun control, which seemed to be a big issue in past elections, foreign war policies, minimun wage issues, etc....

These are just a few issues that seem to be at the forefront.

Look at Michael Levitt, former two term LDS Governor of Utah, now U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and of course who can overlook U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch and all he has done to dispell wrong notions of who we are as LDS.

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch

U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt

After listening to Giuliani lecture Sean Hannity on respecting differing opinions and on his pressuring of Democrats and Republicans to take an actual stand on the Iraq war (like Obama has done and like Giuliani has done), I am throwing all my support behind Giuliani, until I know who the Libertarian Candidate is. Giuliani sounds unlike any politician I've ever heard going into an election. He actually has me excited!

I'm not sure what it is about Giuliani, but I like him. I'd have to find out more about him before I became really comitted, though. I'm thinking of voting Democratic this year, but that will depend on who ends up in the finals. I'm not crazy about Obama and I can't stand Hillary Clinton, so we'll just have to see.

Voting democrat? I hear that is automatic telestial kingdom... Remember, David O. McKay said that communism is NOT the united order. :p

From what I've read, things are not getting cleared up. The same old stuff is being reported as "news" without any real fact checking. I suppose it's because most of the reporters writing the stories are cynical themselves about the church and this comes out in their writing. The article on the front page of USA Today yesterday was one of the best I've read so far.

I like Giuliani, but I don't know if I can support him yet. He has some questionable values and I've got to see if the good with him can outweight the bad he brings along.

I didn't read what Maize wrote about Romney, but she has been on looking for things to critisize about him for months. I understand why she doesn't like him (gay issues), but she has a lot of hard feelings towards him. I can imagine that she came up with some stuff that isn't so good.

I do like that Romney is more a manager than a politician & he has been successful with turning stuff around. I'm sick of politicians.

After a little research, Giuliani seems alright. Not an ideal choice, but better than some others out there. He has some differing views than me, but hey, my first vote just might end up republican. Whodathunkit?

I like Mitt Romney, he is LDS. I like Guliani too, he does have some questionable morals though. Newt is not bad either, but again, questionable morals. Just pleeeease don't let it be Hillary!!!
