Online porn debate is it bad ?

Porn is not about sex, it's about greed. Every aspect of it is intended to try and take your money. Which is why it's so depressing and even ugly so much of the time.

Porn like everything in life is both good and bad; however, when it is Bad it ranks extremely bad for the majority of the population and when it is good, it is only good for a very small percentage of the population.

One of the things I wonder about is whether porn would even be a thing had it not been for sexual oppression imposed by religion.

If religion required having to eat alone behind a closed door where individuals couldn't be seen eating food, then would there be a plague of material of people eating (images, video, audio of munching on food, gulping, burping)?

I came up with this example from something similar that actually used to exist; in ancient Hawaiian culture, it was actually forbidden for men and women to eat together.

Porn ranges from the absolutely terrible to the really quite good. As a sexually naive adult with a need to know up until my mid 30s before discovering internet porn i found it (the good stuff) enjoyable and educational in both what to do and what not to do
Yes, when you're right, you're right......Educational and academic experience....I even take notes.

Oh God here we go.....

Do you even have the foggiest idea how much porn actresses and actors make? Much less content creators?

There's so much free porn out there it's unconceivable backed by ad revenue who bankrolls the industry.

Can't you see how this 'poisons the well'? Or does money justify everything in your mind.

It's only 'free' as an inticement to buy. None of it is about sex. It's all about exploiting sexuality for money. Remove the profit motive and it would all disappear tomorrow.

I do not think that porn itself is an issue. It's something that basically everyone with a computer consumes at some point and not something to feel ashamed about.

“One thing you come to understand very quickly while using XKEYSCORE is that nearly everyone in the world who’s online has at least two things in common: they have all watched porn at one time or another, and they all store photos and videos of their family.”

— Edward Snowden

I do think that the porn industry today does often depict violence against women and truly demeaning acts in a way that is normalizing of that behavior and likely influences men further into such desires.

I understand that interests are broad and I don't mean to stigmatize anyone for their preferences, but I do feel quite scared if I open up a new site and look at the front page or trending videos. I feel like the 'default' content that is pushed is incredibly extreme, sexist and objectifying, but it does not have to be.

But porn on the internet is free or at least most I think is.

The science is still not in. What we have are a smattering of unduplicated studies. Most of the talk about porn is alarmist, coming in without much critique from people who are opposing sexual violence, sexual perversions, political considerations etc. There is a lot of over confident information and intuition. There was a video on youtube recently claiming that porn fried brains.

Find one duplicated study. What with all of the bias in sociological publishing there is no reason to accept a study anymore. Its so easy to publish lies and tweaked data that "Its academic" means its useless outside of academia.

When we go fishing, the worm is always "free".

The pornsters don't care about the 'lookiloos' that just look at their 'teaser' porn out of curiosity. They're after the people that will become hooked on it. And become obsessed with it. Because those are the people that will end up paying a lot of money to keep getting their "porn fix".

Also, all that "free teaser porn" creates the illusion that pornography is commonplace, and acceptable, and just a "normal" part of the world.

Anything will dissappear without money.

Sex is the oldest profession after all, and the internet has made it much safer and profitable for the entertainers with many adapting to the YT model.

Pornhub anyone?

What a sad thing to say.

But no, a lot of things will not disappear without a profit motive.

Sex is not a "profession". The exploitation of sex is. And it's a profession that is harmful and damaging to any culture foolish enough to allow it. But you are not going to understand any of this because you think money defines all value and purpose. Which is itself part of the harm and damage that has already been done.

I doubt it. Money is essential in civilization and without it, meaning a viable economy, there is no civilization.

Also sex is a legitimate profession, arguably a good beneficial one, and likely always will be. It's not going to go away anytime soon.

OK, here's my, perhaps unconventional, take on pornography.

Since I was a teenager, I have had an above average "libido". I was also not blessed with the ability to attract women in enough quantity to satisfy my needs, particularly as it's important to me that my partners enjoy sex as much as I do, so prostitutes are "out". The one thing that has kept me sane through the years has been masturbation.

At one time all I needed was mental imaging, though some pictures helped. Over the years better and better "pictures" became available. From bra ads, to Playboy level magazines, to more explicit magazines, to videos. And so I watch "porn" on the internet, with no shame, no cost and always huge gratitude to those wonderful women that so kindly allow me to enjoy their bodies. I'm selective in what I watch, trying to avoid anything that might have caused harm to the participants. So no bondage, nothing involving pain and absolutely no underage participants. I know that, even though I don't pay for it, the actors have been paid, so I'm happy with that. I wouldn't be totally averse to paying if I thought a particular video was worth it, but I'm not keen to enter credit card details on the sites I would visit.

So there you are. Rather than seeing porn as something sinful or bad, I consider it a remarkable service for those that have no other sexual outlet. Thank you, Stormy Daniels and all your friends.

What if porn became normalized ? What would happen ?

I have a high libido to and I agree with you without porn and masturbating and other erotica like comics or audio I would be very sexually frustrated.
