only 19% Americans believe in Darwin's theory of evolution

The majority of Americans believe that humanity was created by the Almighty or guided by God in its evolution, a Gallup poll reveals. Only 19% believe humans evolved from a more primitive form of life without any help from the celestial powers that be.

That is a bit confusing. Darwinism says nothing about whether there was divine intervention, after all.

Yes, I realize that this odd wording is from the article, not yours. But it shows that the article is not really very serious.

I think that figure will change dramatically soon when the older generations die.

may be, in future sometime, science will say evolution was just a philosophy. they have never observed any example of evolution.

Only nineteen percent?

Golly gee whiz! You mean American science education isn't the best in the world? Who would have thought so?

But the high proportion who accept evolution AND believe in god are not being counted. That would take the proportion of those who accept evolution to 50%.

So according to that survey 50% of americans accept evolution, not 19%.

I am actually surprised and impressed that the number is so high. 19% of Americans believe "God" had nothing to do with human development! I have never seen a number this high for something like that. I know this is just one poll, but if this is accurate then it represents major progress.

19% isn't so bad.
And it's getting better.

Accept evolution on their terms you mean. I don't recall Charles Darwin referring to 'guided by god' as part of the theory.

He didn't, of course. But then again, everyday life isn't a testimony of the existence of God either.

Evolution is agnostic to any divine influence.

The correct percentage is 50%. Not 19%.

So what? The number of respondants who accepted evolution was still 50%, not 19%.

Darwin did not exclude the possibility of divine influence.
