I would be willing to bet that there is a perfect correlation between not accelting evolution and not actually knowing what evolution is.

I have never met a person who knows basically what evolution is AND denies it.

Um, how? It's just reconciling religious faith with modern science. It's a good thing, actually.

Oh sure, I know. I was kidding, hence the winking smiley. Either way, whether 81% or 50% of Americans are wrong about something, wrong is wrong. Stuff doesn't become more factual the more people believe in it.

Oh, sorry. I guess the sarcasm didn't come across because I'm in a bad mood. :(

Can't brain. Has dumb.
The majority of Americans believe that humanity was created by the Almighty or guided by God in its evolution, a Gallup poll reveals. Only 19% believe humans evolved from a more primitive form of life without any help from the celestial powers that be.

Another way to read the results are that 58% believe that evolution does/did happen, with or without God's help

you are right about that. And the other important thing is also knowing just exactly how the question was asked, and who was asked. I bet there is a difference in results of such a survey if you ask it of people in the American bible belt and those in Paris, Bejing, NYC, or Tehran for example.

I went to see Inherit the Wind at the theatre last night. Depressing that it's still so current. Being put on trial for thinking...

So according to that, a majority of Americans actually do believe in evolution guided by God? Can you explain how we might differentiate between Evolution Guided By God® and old-fashioned vanilla Evolution?
