only 19% Americans believe in Darwin's theory of evolution

I prefer hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional white mice.
They have such cute little high pitched voices.

That is so deluded.

The intergalactic space penguins who crap morals will probably see you in hell for that.

So.....you're saying that morals are just their waste product, ie, morals are crap?

Actually, that means a majority of Americans accept evolution (well, the largest percentage, anyway). Theistic evolution is still an acceptance of evolutionary theory. I fit in that category, too.

Well they are gods, their crap is gold to us. Morals need a source, without a source you have no foundation for objective morality - hence the penguins excrete it in the vicinity of planets they are creating.

I don't mean to offend you, but images of the space penguins are pretty damn offensive thanks very much. Don't make me organise a fatwa.

You know what would be useful?

A survey to uncover what percentage of Americans really know what evolution is.

What percentage of the people surveyed have an opinion on the veracity of evolution, but not a clear understanding of what evolution is?

Actually, it sounds like the poll actually is saying "Only 19% believe humans evolved from a more primitive form of life without any help from the celestial powers that be", which is different from what may be implied is the result of the poll by others.

This is not the same as saying "do not believe in evolution", it just mixes in the idea that some theories of certain "original 'primative' life" such as what we think of as modern monkey and ape is the origin of humans is suspect, and a belief that even with evolution that a higher power still has a hand in it.

For example, I am an American, and a Hindu. I do not think there is evidence that what are modern apes even existed back when we find early bones of humans. So we did not evolve from modern apes or monkey, these did not exist back then. It might be possible that some humanoids evolved BACKWARDS into apes, due to bad character. But I am not sure.

Lemurs seem very human like. But modern lemurs are probably nothing like ancient ones.

But I do believe a divine hand was in play. And many Americans believe it was possible that higher intelligence came from another world and taught humans certain things.

I do believe humans change their physical and mental capacity over time, this can happen even within one generation. I also believe some human cultures can evolve backwards to being more ape like and crude. What you do, becomes you physically in time. Those who live in crude, violent and hateful society physically "evolve" into ape like beings. But some actual apes or monkey are better than these "new apes" by far, and eventially will replace these "new apes" as the new ones will eat their own children proverbially and literally.

I will try not to take it personally :p and take the opportunity to point out that Evolution does not have a direction in that way. It is perhaps unfortunately named, for it is basically repeated adaptation, as opposed to directed development in a set direction.

may be, in future sometime, science will say evolution was just a philosophy. they have never observed any example of evolution.
Not true.

There are plenty of examples of observed evolution.

The theory is based on the observations. The observations are facts, the theory is the explanation to why and how these observed facts of evolution work.

Evolution is not, and never was, "just a philosophy." It was and is based on the observed phenomenon of this world. Nature does what nature does, and science explains what it does through many sciences, one of them is the theory of evolution.

That's a good thought.

It's encouraging that 50% of the people in the chart I found believe evolution happened.
Sure most attribute it to God, but their beliefs don't contradict the evidence.

I'm sure you could take a poll of "how you found your car keys, while in a rush and they were misplaced" and still have a high attribution to god.

don't get me started on "how we win the big game in overtime"
