Oral Sex is "best"

Rex

Washington - US teenagers apparently prefer oral sex as a safer and morally more acceptable alternative to intercourse, a possible explanation for their rare use of condoms, according to a small poll by the University of California.

Around 20% of the ethnically diverse 580 teenagers - 42% boys, 58% girls with a mean age of 14 - who answered a questionnaire in the study published on Monday, admitted having had oral sex, compared to 14% who had had intercourse.

In addition, one third of the survey group said they intended to experiment with oral sex in the following six months, said the medical researchers headed by University of California paediatrics professor Bonnie Halpern-Felsher.

The teenagers in the survey said they preferred oral sex because they believed it carried "significantly less risk" than intercourse in terms of its health, social and emotional consequences, according to the study.

This perception would explain why condom use among teenagers is so rare, the researchers said. Although the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, including Aids, is considerably lower with oral sex as opposed to regular sexual relations, young people too often underestimate it, said the study published in the latest issue of Paediatrics.

At the age of 14????? :tsk:

I have a 12 year old daughter I have had the talk already with her simply for the fact that children now a days are far more permiscuous (sp)? and I want her to be educated completly.
The thought that they arent as "worried" about catching something by having oral sex as they would by having intercourse is a very harsh and scarey reality. It only take one open sore in your mouth and one person to have the infection to catch it.

This is just as bad as the jelly bracelets the girls wear these days they arent for " the look " believe me my daughter was telling me not to long ago that the number of jelly's you wear on your wrist accounts for the number of boys you have either slept with or have had oral sex with.:tsk: ( I remember when I was young those jelly's were just jelly's and had no meaning behind them )

Appauling doesnt even describe how I feel about this one.

My generation, and yours, are the ones who have 'moved the goalposts' in morality and ethics in Society - perhaps we should have shouted more when we were young, and have tried harder to preserve the cultures of our parents ?

"best" is spending time with the one you love to me... anything else that happens is just a bonus :D

(I do prefer the sex bonus the most though... hehe)

Ok good arguement but my queastion is.. Where are these children's parents now? Have they not sat their kids down and discussed what it was like in the 80's when AIDS first came about and how it happens?

It is up to every parent it is a responsabilitiy of any parent to sit down and discuss everything about sex with their children. To be honest and forward about the entire subject. If we all did that then maybe their views about "sex" in its entirety would be different.:)

Sorry for the plain talk here but rainbow sex parties consist of girls all putting on different shades of lipstick and having oral sex with as many boys as they felt like and I suppose the boys were wearing the 'rainbow'...I just heard about it this week on Dr.Phil and Larry Elders and there was another place but I was so shocked about it I don't remember who reported about this first. It was to be fairly prevelent in the mid-west areas. These girls said their parents didn't have a clue on what all goes on at parties. They also said when asked how they felt afterward they said they felt pretty bad and ashamed.

Rainbow parties don't seem like fun to me... I'll stick with one, or two, at most, even that wouldn't be a priority, females in my life, and two only if they don't mind. I prefer the family unit presented in the "Uplift" series. Three or four humans group together to form a family group. Much better, I think.

It's not right the sex/oral sex is given without care.

I think the word that fits here is promiscuous. My wife's sister will be 16 next month, and last spring/summer, right before she turned 15, she ran through the list of things kids aren't supposed to do like it was a checklist. Fortunately, she didn't get pregnant, a disease, or an arrest record, but many of her friends weren't so lucky. Now, she has immersed herself in the Lord and goes to church regurlarly.

Yes, it should be. But, the reality is in many homes, the parents are divorced and too busy with their own lives to be parents to their children. Many parents want to be their children's friend, and are afraid to set the limits that children desperately need.

Frubals to you for taking responsibility in your daughter's development.:)

Planned oral sex. I guess this generation of children do not believe in experimenting spontaneously.

We always got to have something to hate or be pissed about- why not something useful?
Geraldo Rivera (SRA's LOL-*duma$$*), Oprah, some news shows etc. make much ado about nothing, mountains out of molehills (even if they have to create the molehills!)for viewership, profit ect some may be true but most probably isn't, we shouldn't get too knee-jerked over something that may prove to be overall false or inconsequential- MOA.

Mom- "why do you have those bracelets?
Daughter -"because everyone else is wearing them" (which is true)
Mom- "liar- youv'e been with boys haven't you?"
Daughter- "no, I haven't" (thinks WTF? and where the F? it's coming from)
Mom- "go to your room"
Daughter- "fine"
(daughter then thinks about doing what she is accused of anyway, but doesn't)

The American Dream television show, watch it, love it.

I would never speak to my child in this matter all it is going to get is a child who has the view of " If Im going to be accused I may as well do it anyways".

I would hope that if I asked my daughter about the bracelets she would trust in me enough to be honest about why she is wearing them.
I also would have to trust her enough to believe what she is telling me and that she knows what she is doing .
