Thank god for that, I didn't read the article either,

You might actually want to do that.

just assumed they were passing them out like candy.

As someone once told me, never assume, it makes an ***. of of u. and me.

I think if I had kids, I would forbid the counselor to give them condoms.
That would be my choice and my teaching of them.
The schools can teach them math and stuff, I will teach them how to respect their bodies and bet my kids wont be getting pregnant, get STD's and my sons wouldn't be bullying girls into having sex with them either.
From what i read, that is a huge issue.
"everyone else is doing it, come on, what are you, a freak? everyone has sex"

You have a lot of confidence for someone who doesn't have children. :areyoucra

It's possible, plenty of parents could give a hoot what even their 9 year olds are doing or who they hang with.
"just be home by 9"

Not this guy.

Every day I walk to the store, I see very young kids out and about, groups of them walking the streets, from 6 years old on up...
That is the problem right there, mom and dad are too busy to even care what their kids are doing, who they are hanging with...etc

So... you believe that many parents aren't properly supervising or raising their children, but you're also opposed to schools picking up the slack as best as they can?

You are in favour of teen pregnancy. That's the logical implication of your position.

Q: How old are these 6th graders? (it's been a while:eek:)

If they're precocious enough to ask for condoms, maybe they're precocious enough to need them. What harm in giving out condoms, anyway? Are we afraid they'll use them to build up a dangerous arsenal of water balloons?

Re letting kids run around unsupervised: As long as they know their way home and have the common sense not to play in traffic, where's the problem? Don't we want to encourage independence? Do we want our children to grow up fearful of the world and averse to risk-taking?

If the kids at that school are having sex then I don't see why they shouldn't be encouraged to be safe while doing it. Condoms help prevent unwanted pregnancies and STIs. Better that than the students putting their health at risk or getting pregnant without being prepared to care for a child. That age sounds very young to me to be having sex but when I was that age, I knew a couple of people who had. So I think this (and educating kids) is better than telling them to not have sex, because if they want to they'll go ahead and do it, and at least if they know what to expect and how to be safe and keep their partners safe, they won't have problems.

I hope they're following it through with sex ed lessons too. I think there are lots of important concepts people should know about before having sex like informed consent and respecting your partner's boundaries.

They are probably just going to end up filling them with water and throw them at each other in the schoolyard. I see this program coming to a very swift end.

Consider;
"Although there is a wide range of normal ages, girls typically begin the process of puberty at age 10 or 11; boys at ages 11–12"
source
and
"The first ejaculation in males often occurs about 12 months after the onset of puberty"
source
Ergo: first ejaculation typically occurs around the age of 12-13.

In the USA 6th graders are almost always 11 years old.

So, although it's possible that in the USA a sixth grade girl could get pregnant, it's highly unlikely the father would be a sixth-grade boy.
