Our glorious New York State leadership of the Motherland just put to death a dangerous squirrel and a raccoon deemed a threat to the people.

Just for the record, the guy was breaking the law by keeping the squirrel and raccoon. Why they picked on him after 7 years of tolerating the situation, I don't know.

The logical reason would be that someone complained about it and thereby made it known to the authorities that he had them. I doubt that these animals can be rehabilitated once they've become accustomed to regular human contact which is likely why they had to be put down.

But instead of blaming the idiot that altered their natural behavior, for no logical or legitimate reason, we want to blame the agency that then had to correct the problem. Because hating and blaming the government is all the rage among the idiot right these days. And just the words "New York" will trigger their outrage.

Peanut had quite a presence on social media. That was probably what exposed the owner, though we'll never know.

My feeling is that the law is in general correct. Wild animals do not in general take well to domestication. Particularly when young animals are taken as pets and then grow up to show their true nature, and people are attacked. It's not the animals' fault of course, dogs and cats have been bred for centuries to live peacefully with us. Raccoons have not. And that's just looking at it from the pov of human safety.

This case does seem to be the exception, but unfortunately laws don't handle exceptions well.

Really? You are defending the DEC? Peanut was his pet for 7 years, caused no problems. He was adopted after his mother was killed. You must hate non-human animals.

I expected better from you.

The squirrel wasn’t just a wild animal that had its natural life altered by “some idiot”.
It was a rescue animal. Mark Longo runs an animal rescue facility and had raised Peanut since he was baby, orphaned when his mother was killed by a car.
The raccoon, which the government agency also killed, was going to be released back into the wild once its injuries were healed.

This is why I called New York State the People's Republic. it is the least free and mist oppressive state to live in in the entire nation.

There is nothing American whatsoever when it comes to the People's Republic of New York.

If the pursuit of happiness means anything. Please do not come to this police state like this person did. Otherwise you will suffer severe consequences at some point.
Hyperbole much

Animal rescue includes NOT habituating the animals to humans so they can be returned to their natural habitat. It also involves NOT keeping 'pets' that are highly inclined toward contracting rabies. But of course phony blubbering emotionalism and our loathing of any form of government oversight blinds some of us to these realities. Because these adult toddlers just can't stand having to be told they can't do anything they want, whenever they want, why ever they want, regardless of how it might effect anyone else.

We Never Know

No Slack

The rabid squirrels and raccoon were seized from these highly dangerous people who were out to harm the great Supreme glorious Leader and its citizens, which is why these rabid creatures were put to death, because they were potentially spreading rabies to the populace. This was stopped by our glorious supreme authorities. So brave of them to risk their lives in this highly dangerous sting operation.

Thanks to the quick actions of our glorious supreme leader and our brave and heavily armed authorities, countless lives were spared , and the criminal squirrel owners and criminal raccoon owners will never be able to endanger our citizens of the great People's Republic of New York with these unauthorized bio weapons ever again.

Ignore all pleas that they were beloved by countless masses of people, cuz that is just not true. It is only our beloved Supreme Chairwoman and our caring authorities that truly care for your well-being and safety.

That is all comrades.
Read about that the other day. Pretty ****ed up IMO.

This is what bureaucrats do, they exert whatever power they have no matter if it makes sense or not.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
There are many things I love about NY state. I own much land there. But it is absolutely true that it is a nanny state. I am a socialist and yet still find NY a bit off the rails.

That said, things have become better there over the last decade.

Keep hope alive
It's why I call it the people's Republic here because the whole premise in New York is authoritarianism based on rule by the government over the people as opposed to government being run for the people.

It's also listed as the most oppressive state in the entire nation with the least freedoms at both personal and economic levels along with the People's Republic of California.
