Paid Maternity Leave

The USA is one of the last countries on Earth that does not guarantee paid maternity leave for new moms. Given the financial strain that families can be put under to take time away from work to give birth and care for a newborn, and the fact that around the country states are making it illegal to terminate a pregnancy, this strikes me as a no-brainer. Why shouldn't we ensure that new moms are financially supported while caring for a new child?

I'm confident that every prolifer who cares so deeply about the right to life will join me in supporting this. Right?

capitalism and love often conflict. shows you what are the treasure of someone's heart. but everyone knows some people want their cake and eat it too. the decision is inevitable, eventually you eat when you get hungry enough, or perish.

While I'm suspending judgement on which way to go on Roe vs. Wade, I think a lot of things need overhauled in favor of women if abortion is going to be decided by the states.

Do you disagree with the Supreme Court ruling that state law can't ban interracial marriage?
I'm not a fan of states rights, that's how rights and freedoms get taken away

And same for paternity of course.
For the most part, I like Canada's approach:

- 15 weeks pregnancy leave (must be taken by the person giving birth)

- 40 weeks parental leave (can be split between either parent as they choose, except that one parent can't take more than 35 weeks)... OR the same amount of money over 69 weeks (with 61 weeks as the maximum claimable by one parent)

... all of this being job-protected.

And parents adopting a child get parental leave (but not pregnancy leave), too.

Roe vs. Wade is one thing. It's a controversial issue. Overturning the others, though, is starting to step into unknown and dangerous territory, as it may go too far, for starters.

Loving v. Virginia is just one of the many Supreme Court rulings that hinged on the right to privacy, which the Supreme Court just threw out in their overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Interesting.
Here the woman has the right to two months (paid) leave before the delivery and three months (paid) leave after the delivery.
Throughout the baby's first year, the mother has right up to two hours a day rest.

Profit as a motive only looks at the bottom line, no matter what else may be happening. That's why capitalism always needs government oversight to make sure no one is getting taken advantage of.

I certainly would support paid maternity and paternity leave over so much of the wasted money spent on other things.

Yes like our bloated military budget. Although that's another thread.

But thank you for at least being willing to voice support for the policy in question.
Welcome. Definitely the the hugely bloated military budget...is another thread topic.

A modern country, not like their southern neighbours
