Pain

I feel like I'm always in pain. Something. Somewhere.

Today, aside from female biological processes that cause pain in the lower back and abdomen, I have a splinter in my right heel that I'll have to dig out today, a giant bruise/scrape on my right hip from running into a doorknob at high speed, and my right knee is swollen from trying to climb over the clawfoot bathtub to see if the cat was hiding in the window(he was). I seem to have ongoing problems with my left heel(and overall feet in general) and right hip, but happily, they're not present this morning.

I'm just curious, how often do the rest of you get bumped up, or have other aches and pains?

At age 78, I don't need to bump and trip to have aches and pains. I have an arthritic finger on my right hand, an arthritic wrist on my left, a bit of carpal tunnel from overuse, mild distress from IBS, right knee pain from falling on it when I was 6 years old and so forth. But compared to my peers, I'm doing wonderfully.

That's a long time to carry knee pain. How'd you fall?

I'm sorry you're dealing with this pain.

For me, pain is an old friend. I've had it for so long, I've become used to it, and it's just become a part of life. I don't really bump myself up much, but I have some pain that's been with me for a bit...

I live with chronic arthritis. It's most prevalent in my hands and right knee. In my right knee, it's the result of an injury and subsequent surgery in my 20s. The cartilage in the joint is practically gone. My hands are just a result of getting old and worn out.

I also deal with numbness in both arms that presents in certain positions. This is a result of spinal degeneration. Not as much painful as it is a nuisance.

Other minor pains here and there as a result of this body getting old, but nothing unusual from what I understand.

"old friend" I like that.

It sounds like you are coping with the pains/discomforts you have well, but I'm sorry you have to experience them. I'm glad you're able to avoid general bump ups for the most part.

Don't be. I'm not. I may have pain, but I don't suffer.

I've come to find joy in everything I experience. Even pain. It's all a part of the ride.
I'm glad to hear that. :)

When I was 8, I busted my hand on the faucet in the bathroom. It bled. It hurt. I was about to scream for my mom, and then I stopped. I concentrated on it. I thought "why is this feeling bad?" I let myself be with this 'pain', that all of the sudden didn't register as a negative feeling anymore; rather neutral. I washed the blood off, and went back to playing.

For some reason, I've carried that memory.

That's an excellent anecdote and a good lesson for anyone else who reads it.

It sucks doesn't it?

Arthritis in left thumb, result of shrapnel being blown into the joint. Not so bad in summer unless i strain it, really painful in winter.

Back problems, 2 reasons, spina bifida in one lumbar joint and the result of a botched operation. For that i sometimes need very strong pain killers containing opium as a last resort.

But hey, life goes on.

I was running through the house and ran onto a throw rug which slipped out from under me. I thought it was all over for decades until my past came back to haunt me. The same thing happened when I ignored dental hygiene for too many decades. Dentists have had great vacations on my teeth.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that.

I know what you mean on the dental stuff. I don't personally have too many troubles, but my husband didn't see a dentist until he was 23(his mother never took him to one), and his mouth is a mess. He was afraid to brush for a long time(thought teeth would fall out/crumble), but that made things worse.

At 77 I don't seem to have any worrying pains, although the occasional pain in fingers for no particular reason might mean I will have arthritis or osteoporosis to look forward to - the latter being what my mother had. But I have had many pains over the years, and injuries, with none seemingly having any long-lasting affects. One of the worst pains was when I fell sideways off my bike when my new clip pedals failed to release even though I thought I had tested them enough so as to do so. The back pain from strained muscles was agony for weeks. Others include five bone breakages and several incidents of trauma to my head. So if I do sound bonkers occasionally you can blame these as to my brain perhaps suffering. Mind you, reading some of the comments here suggests others have this issue too. :D

I'm over 60, have arthritis a fake knee and a knee they want to replace...if I'm not in pain all the time these days I think there is something wrong

At approaching 69, there is usually some niggle somewhere. As with so many people, it is often my back, or something referred from there to create a sensation elsewhere, e.g. in a hip or something. But also other things. The other day, my son and I vandalised a rotten garden bench so I could take the bits to the dump. In the process I hurt a big toe - and afterwards found my left wrist had become stiff, as if arthritic. Both are OK again now.

But why did you run into a doorknob at high speed? That seems rather an unforced error.:)

I forgot about my back. Lifting moderately heavy objects causes back pain, standing in one place in an imperfect way and as does who knows what causes pain. For back pain, stretching and strengthening exercises before I get out of bed has helped.
