I'm using my computer on a 60" Sony Smart TV.
Wow! My TV is just a bit over half that size.
I just use regular mouse and keyboard, or an Xbox controller. I've never found those gamer-specific ones to be worth the money.
I'd prefer the PS3 or 4 controller, but using programs like Xpadder or DS4Windows is just such a hassle when a number of games anymore have native 360 controller support. But when there is no native support, I even like using the classic XBox controller. It just depends on the game.

Pc's are by far the dominant platform with superior hardware and software available, not to mention upgradable, to meet new developments in technology where as consoles are sealed with limited tech lifespans that essentally brick your past game investments once production and support gets cancelled for the so called next-gen hardware over the course of years.
I used to think that about PC games, until I got my current computer and it wouldn't run any older games because of "x64 bit compatibility issues." It's not an issue with Linux, but Linux compatibility overall is rather hit-and-miss.

From what I hear tell, that's kind of a thing of the past when it comes to consoles... unless it's a Nintendo one.

LOL..no...that's not really true.
But in terms of games constantly shipping downloads to your console, and needing to be 'always online', its certainly less simple these days.

But to clarify my meaning, I meant more from a hardware point of view than a software one.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I've been looking at steamboxes which seem a nice in between but I don't hear much about them too much. You can either build or buy one manufactured. I kinda like it but the real downside seems to be connectivity. If the lines are down, I hear it's only a brick sitting on the desktop until it gets reconnected.

The only thing I've ever heard about them is they are increasing the amount of Steam games that are compatible with Linux. Other than that, nothing.

Though I'd love to get a joystick for Elite: Dangerous, and a Wheel+Pedals for Euro Truck Simulator. :D

I use XB360 gamepads for games that don't need basic aiming. Fighting adventure games cannot run without a gamepad. It is just unfortunate that parallel 6-button gamepards are no more. Not classic Mortal Kombat games are no fun.

Wow! My TV is just a bit over half that size.

The perks of living with my parents and not being married, and having a steady income (tho not that good, but I'm grateful) ;)

To add to it, that TV is coupled with three 27" monitors for spanned gaming :D

Here, have a look:
full

The top is now replaced with the 60" (it was 32").

But my point was that the advantage of consoles running on TV's has now been shared with PC's, both video and audio, thanks to HDMI cables. The TV I have supports add-on standard sub-woofers but just connecting them to the mic port and changing the settings from mic to sub-woofer. I connected my very old one to it and now it sounds like a theater :D

I liked consoles for compatibility, relatively inexpensive compared to a good gaming rig, and the plug and play conviences it offers without fickling around for optimization and software conflict, so for a long time that was my mainstay for gaming.

True. I miss the good compatibility/optimization that kinda got damaged with the last generation. Now consoles games use updates, which is annoying and not friendly on them.

It took me about a week to get used to mine, but once I did....
My gaming got so much better.

I take the time to map the buttons so I no longer need the bars on screen....
Does the little knob thingy function as a mouse, or is it a d-pad?

I have mine set up to use it for various skills while using the wasd for movement.
My brother has his set up to look around.
A friend of mine uses it instead of the wasd to move around....

I set the scroll wheel up to change configurations.
When I was playing WoW I only had to move the scroll wheel to switch my key mapping from tank to healer to dps to crafting...
It also worked surprising well for LoTRO, SWTOR, DayZ....

For a long time I remapped my Thrustmaster f-22 stick, HOTAS and pedals, even for FRPs and SPSs ... worked pretty good.

Most of us, if not all, surely started as console gamers. I think moving to PC gaming is a big leap evolution for gamers, way much more than just moving from let's say 8-bit console gaming to 16-bit console gaming.

When I was young and started gaming, hardly anyone had computers, but plenty of people had an Atari or Nintendo. We didn't really have the option to start on PC.
