I've spent some time with it and its predecessor and found they are not that different from each other in the good/bad department. Fans keep spreading bad words about consoles they don't like and I wouldn't believe everything I hear. At worse, it is just that the improvement from the predecessor is not that big. Same for PS3 to PS4.
My only real complaint with the XBox 1, assuming it will be similar in nature to the XBox 360, is that if you have a PC then why bother? Most XBox games are available on PC (the Steam Machine may make this even more so), and you'll get better performance and graphics. It makes it seem even more pointless with more PC games coming with native controller support, especially the ones that are also on XBox. Honestly, there is only one game I feel left out on without a 360 and that is Fable 2. Everything else I can get on PC. Other than that, my friend's brother has an XBox 1 and he hasn't had any complaints from it other than that it really isn't that much of an improvement over the XBox 360.
With Playstation though, it's a different story. Many of those games are not on PC.

The only reason I got myself a 360 (got it used in good shape for ~$134 USD) was because of Gears of War post the first installment (three of them). I then made sure the One is backward compatible with these games, so I made the trade (the One is a brand new 1TB version with 1 game pad, traded for the 360 console and power brick only + for $240 USD and I kept the 2 game pads to use on PC). Those games were never to be released for PC as per an announcement from Epic Mega Games. I also got an unofficial keyboard/mouse adapter for the 360 but it does not work exactly like the PC's. GoW 4 is coming on PC this time, thanks to a new system called Xbox Play Anywhere that allows games to run on both XB1 and PC.

That's why I had to bother :)

I see. It is hard to know what is true and not true anymore.

I've also come to realization that PC gaming gets better download speeds. It doesn't matter if I'm at home (wireless broadband) or my brothers (U-verse), the consoles choke the download speeds while the PC gets the regular speeds.
