No, letting go of the desire to control leads to peace.I've been a Catholic
baptism......school......applied to a seminary
are you attempting to assert Catholic Faith as........THE way to peace?
Jesus did not respond to the violence, with violence, it was not his timeto die. Instead of seeking out scripture that speaks against peace, perhaps to focus on the sermon on the mount, or 13 Cor might help. At least it does for me. We understand fighting, anger, revenge, what we may have trouble understanding is what Jesus is asking us all to do, to seek another way. He forgave all on the cross, all.hmmmm.....
upon the first occasion the Carpenter did speak....the crowd lost control
they took Him to a steep incline with intent to throw Him down
in the book I keep.....He turned about and walked through the crowd
and no man was able to lay hold of Him
seems peace is not always at hand
Not really. Yes, he overturned tables and preached about keeping the Temple Holy. I am sure some of the merchants were reached by his seeking to open up their hearts. I doubt anyone lost money in this, or that he injured anyone. Teaching, even if using extreme tactics can be necessary. Jesus, knowing each man there and what was in their hearts did something that would bear fruit. Often when we attack someone in the name of truth there are underlying factors that actually make things worse.I do understand the desire to be at ease
to not have that line of thought......make it right....
there are moments I say to myself .....let it go
but then.....there's that event at the Temple
wherein the Carpenter......couldn't let it go
it was bruttal
I will take another look.....butNot really. Yes, he overturned tables and preached about keeping the Temple Holy.
The point is, whatever Jesus did was based on love, not on revenge, or shaming, we do that, hence the many failures of Christians, myself included. The Bible largely reflects the culture of the time period from roughly 1000 b.c.e. to 100 c.e., and violence was commonplace even with the "good guys". IOW, the Bible is a "human book" besides being Divine to a greater or lesser extent.
If God is Love, and I believe God is, then that's the direction I believe we should definitely go in. But I also believe God is Truth, thus we should face reality, as difficult as this can be at times. Did Jesus use some violence? It appears he did-- if the scripture is correct on this. But, to me, the overall tone of Jesus' is one of Love and Compassion and Truth, thus I believe this is the best direction for us to go in, and also the best direction on picturing him.
Just my take.
