hmmmm.....
upon the first occasion the Carpenter did speak....the crowd lost control
they took Him to a steep incline with intent to throw Him down

in the book I keep.....He turned about and walked through the crowd
and no man was able to lay hold of Him

seems peace is not always at hand

Jesus did not respond to the violence, with violence, it was not his timeto die. Instead of seeking out scripture that speaks against peace, perhaps to focus on the sermon on the mount, or 13 Cor might help. At least it does for me. We understand fighting, anger, revenge, what we may have trouble understanding is what Jesus is asking us all to do, to seek another way. He forgave all on the cross, all.

Yet I understand your point ;-). I do not always succeed in living out what I write about, in fact, the root of my writings is my failures, my struggle, and depending on God's mercy, which I then try, when I am awake, to extend it to others.

I do understand the desire to be at ease
to not have that line of thought......make it right....

there are moments I say to myself .....let it go

but then.....there's that event at the Temple
wherein the Carpenter......couldn't let it go

it was bruttal

Not really. Yes, he overturned tables and preached about keeping the Temple Holy. I am sure some of the merchants were reached by his seeking to open up their hearts. I doubt anyone lost money in this, or that he injured anyone. Teaching, even if using extreme tactics can be necessary. Jesus, knowing each man there and what was in their hearts did something that would bear fruit. Often when we attack someone in the name of truth there are underlying factors that actually make things worse.

We really can't control anyone, or judge them beyond what we see on the surface. That can be judged, our actions, the heart, the actual motive, and even deeper what caused it in reality, is only seen by God, we see nothing. We have been doing things one way for a long time, and it does not help or change anyone. We have nothing to lose, but perhaps a lot to gain, if we Christians, mself included, took what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount seriously. We have a long way to go.

In prayer, the more we seek the Lod, the more our hearts and minds, will grow to be the Heart and the Mind of Christ.

i have no doubt you are far along on that road.

The Bible largely reflects the culture of the time period from roughly 1000 b.c.e. to 100 c.e., and violence was commonplace even with the "good guys". IOW, the Bible is a "human book" besides being Divine to a greater or lesser extent.

If God is Love, and I believe God is, then that's the direction I believe we should definitely go in. But I also believe God is Truth, thus we should face reality, as difficult as this can be at times. Did Jesus use some violence? It appears he did-- if the scripture is correct on this. But, to me, the overall tone of Jesus' is one of Love and Compassion and Truth, thus I believe this is the best direction for us to go in, and also the best direction on picturing him.

Just my take.

The point is, whatever Jesus did was based on love, not on revenge, or shaming, we do that, hence the many failures of Christians, myself included.

Good comment, thank you.
