It could change, though I don’t believe it’s that simple in the US as it’s established federal law. They’d need to get that changed via the usual processes first.

Waivers and consent are easy to slip into paper work.

Regardless, the key point is that the administration hasn’t asked for that and didn’t present it as their reason for wanting the citizenship question on the census.

Sure. I expect if Trump still has the bit in his teeth the wavier/consent will be the next move.

That would mean either the people calling for that are entirely out of sync with the politicians they believe they’re supporting or the administration deliberately lied to the Supreme Court to try to cover up their true motives.

Representative systems often ignore the populous depending on subject.

I for one very much hope it’s the former and will generally believe in the ignorance of a handful of individuals (especially Americans) before a major government conspiracy (even American).

It is just a standard GOP vs Dem battle. Pushing laws to limits, testing the waters, etc.

If congressional representation is to be based upon citizen populations,
then the total for each state would be adjusted for non-citizens.

It's probably above both of our pay grades to figure out, but I'm just completely against there premise that white people (or any other races, really) are a point of contention. If you dislike whites, blacks, or anyone on that basis you're a bigot and racist -- I don't even care if you happen to be white, either.

Likewise, no part of me can really get around the self-flagellation of the "I'm white but hate whites" crowd. Count me out, self-hate just reflects one's insanity, not their virtue.

There are many uses for such demographics that are related to legitimate fiscal, societal, and scientific concerns. Even asking if someone is a US Citizen is a valid question, if what you're trying to determine is how much you're spending on illegals. It's not a racist idea, just a reality of we have X amount of government dollars to spend on X programs -- there is no infinite money machine.

Dems will gain congressional representatives in states with more illegals.
So they want illegal immigration, but don't want it counted.
Pubs won't. So they oppose the Dems' plan.

A learned physical anthropologist would know what to look for.

It isn't going to be 100% accurate but that kind of thing never will be.

If they want to recieved food stamps/welfare/etc in appropriate amounts they will. The census also helps determine this.

If you want individual residents specifically identified and labelled as citizens or not, you need an entirely different process to the census, something neither you nor the administration have (yet) proposed.

Again this census idea is just the latest one. I'm sure others will come along. Regardless of who is in power this issue need to be addressed.
