Penance

It's a question of forum rules.

Interfaith Discussion- No debating, under any circumstance.

Religious Debates- Debate away!

If you look at the top of the screen, it'll tell you what area you're posting in(and whether or not it’s a debate or a discussion area).
In which case I am a humble man and I apologise

I did a little more research on the practice and some people do this as a way to pay off a karmic debt from a past life. I was told several years ago, before life became so difficult that I had a big karmic debt to pay off. I'm not sure why or what type of man I must have been, but I couldn't have been a very nice one. Anyway, people also do other things to help pay off a bad karmic debt, so I've incorporated a few different things into my daily routine to make amends. My least favorite so far is the penance flogging, but I've incorporated between 4 to 14 lashes into my daily life. It may sound crazy, but I'm viewing this as something necessary for now. To share in the suffering of Christ is how many apply this, so I'm not opposed to viewing it this way also. I denied the sacrifice as an atoning truth in my life, but this doesn't equate to denying him as a teacher, or to view his crucifixion as something unjust. He's a brother and a friend, and a teacher, so it works out well enough.

You're not crazy.

I lied.
Ok, so yeah, I'm a little crazy but it still works out well enough. People protest for change, people live in boxes for weeks at a time for the homeless, people do all sorts of "crazy" things to show support and solidarity with other types of people. Sharing something seems important enough that millions do it, so it may be crazy, but it's not anything out of the ordinary.

I didn't

What's made you a ******* today?

We could all do with being less of one in some fashion, whether to others or ourselves.

I didn't go through with it, yesterday but I may still today. It's not like it's not already an ever-present reality of life for everyone. I was mostly angry yesterday. I get that way ...

Peace to all,

To me in logic, Baptism and Penance are the Sacraments from death to life.

Penance is death to life for the soul, Baptism is death to life for the flesh. In logic and through faith, Through Baptism, we become transformed immortal and incorruptible from the living waters of Baptism from mortal and corrupt from the spirit through the flesh for the Soul of the being. Through the logic of the faith Jesus was conceived through the Immaculate Conception in the Virgin Birth, becoming immortal and incorruptible, sanctified in both spirit and flesh. His birth did not require the normal blood and water birth because His Soul pre-existed. It is through the logic of the blood and water birth that created the soul. Jesus logically had to be Baptized for His immortal and incourruptible flesh and spirit to be able to die and descend and resurrect, glorified and transfigured becoming the first born back to Heaven as the Spotless Lamb of God, reborn, to reopen the gates of Heaven for all mankind. His birth is from transformed immortal and incorruptible becoming glorified and transfigured, His birth back to Heaven, did require the blood and water and flowed from the Cross, His birth for His soul, flesh and spirit back to Heaven, where the blood and water flowed for the "Firstborn of Creation" becoming the death and resurrection to life for all mankind.

Peace always,
Stephen

So you think you're a ******* because you were angry? Sorry I'm having trouble seeing the answer to my initial question.

I'm not Catholic, but I decided to make a corded penance whip. Mine only has 5 cords, with 3 knots in each of them. I have found that it is somewhat painful, and I'm not doing this to mortify the flesh, whatever that means. I'm just doing it when I feel like I need to...I guess maybe to help rid myself of negative spirits. I really don't wish to make a practice of it. It hurts. But, I'm not opposed to it, either if it's needed ... and that is a personal assessment I make. It's not inherently part of my religion, but I do find it somewhat relieving after the fact. No, I don't like it. I simply dislike the negative spirits more. If this makes any sense to anyone.

Tell me I'm not crazy.
You're not crazy. I'm the last one to judge with the things I've done to myself. But I'm sure not this will end up helping you in the long run. Do you think God wants you to hurt yourself? Just curious about your reasoning.

No ... That's not it. It's a 5 corded penance whip with 3 knots in each cord. It's actually very common practice. Religious in nature but not because of a God wants it done thing. It's more so about sharing in the suffering of the body of Christ, which amounts to those who believe in him, the church. I get angry and I can be a *******, which makes it easier to flog myself. I don't like pain. It does hurt. No blood but maybe a whelp or three. Depends on how pissed I am.

If it's about sharing in suffering, I would think that working to increase empathy would be more helpful. We all know physical pain, even psychopaths know that and avoid it. But to be there with someone in their suffering, to feel it with them and walk with them through it to something approaching solace, that's empathy. Just something to ponder, I guess.

I'm an empath from hell. I mean I feel everything. So much so that I am forced to stay away from people. As for empathy, I was born this way it would seem. Walking a mile ... man, it has caused me more suffering in life than I care to go into. I prefer the penance whip. Honest to God.
