I'm going to request to the techie admin that we be given the ability to give a 'Negative-Frubal' to certain posts. This would subtract '1' from their frubal count.

No way!
I'd lose all me frubies!

At Wirey's & my old forum, the approval system allowed negative ratings.
It ended up being a war between cliques. Anyone who posted a lot in
vigorous discussions would always have a low rating. It sucked.
Btw, if you get your way....prepare for my wrath! Booowhahahahah, etc!

That's insane. I'd leave RF that day if negative frubal take-aways were implemented. Not only would it foster a crappy general attitude on the forum, I'm planning on using my frubal cache to fund my kid's college education!

My post #62 was not serious but a knee-jerk slap at Avi

(and he's somehow on my Friends list too)??

I feel a little sorry for the admins. Imagine going through this thread and trying to make sense of what we actually want and what we don't. Is there some sort of way of creating a moderated thread where people would be able to discuss requested changes without a chance of digression?

Looks easy to me.
They read, consider, & then do as they please, usually with the goal of tormenting us.

Hi everyone,

I am the tech savvy guy behind Religious Forums and will be working with Rex to transition the site to its next life. Here are the things that will be happening over the next couple of days:

In preparation for our move to new, better software (this software was released in 2005...) we will be moving to a new server. There will be some short downtime with this move but nothing over an hour.

Once we get RF on our new server, we will be working to get the software updated to newer, faster, better all around software. The software we are going to move to is https://www.xenforo.com/community/

The same people that created this software in 2005 are now behind the XenForo software. They have a quality forum software that is well updated and secure.

This conversion will cause quite some downtime due to the size of Religious Forum. In an effort to minimize the time you are left out of RF, we will be doing the conversion in the early hours of the weekend. Expect downtime to be in the neighborhood of 12 hours.

To answer some potential questions:

- Will frubals remain? Yes. All your current frubals will make it to the new software. We will do our best to make the feature as identical as possible.

- What will the site look like? We will do our best to make the site appear as identical as possible to our current style in the end.

- Why move? Everything works fine... To you, the end user everything might appear fine. However, to moderators and admins, things are ancient behind the scene. Our new software runs faster on cheaper hardware, has more options to allow us to keep the forum spam free and allows us to keep growing in the future.

- Who are you? My name is Brent Wilson and I have been working and managing forums for 10 1/2 years now. I have known Rex for at least half of that time if not longer. I love forums, love building communities and hope to be able to help you guys continue to get the best experience out of RF.

Other Notes:

Before, During and After the conversion to the new software you are no doubt going to notice some sporadic downtime, things not being accessible that should be and other quirks related to the conversion. Please have patience, as we will make sure that everything is taken care of in the end and that you are given access to everything you had before.

With that said, I will keep a list of things that will not be making the move to the new system:

1) Social Groups
2)

Have any further questions? Ask away. :witch:
Thanks and best wishes for the good work.
I thought first that my account was hacked. :D

Hear Hear, Infinitum. Although I do have to say I admire the guy's patience so far.

Yes, everyone: if you have specific requests or suggestions the best place to start would be here: Site Feedback: http://www.religiousforums.com/forum/site-feedback/

Once you have, staff and whoever else from administration who choses to get involved can discuss it with you and take it from there.

Right now Rex and Administrator are doing a major (and much needed) overhaul to the site, and I think the time for discussing some of the finer details will probably be after they've gotten all that underway.

Or to put it another way: if this were the Enterprise, think of Administrator as Scotty (the chief engineer). He's the guy who'll be responsible for keeping the shields operational, the warp drive running smoothly, the photon torpedo's and transporters up to date, etc.

On the other hand he isn't the person you should be bothering if the vending machines in the holodeck are on the fritz. Staff can take care of the really vital stuff like that. :D

So would this make Rex the captain, who spars with Khan, battles Gorns,
& trysts with the green alien babes? I like this guy more & more!

Will there be notice before the site goes down? I don't want to start holding my breath sooner than necessary.
