Policeman becomes a hero but can't celebrate it

I often hear and see news stories about heroic cops. I also see flags and bumper stickers celebrating the profession. There are countless movies and shows depicting cops as heroes, not to mention how police are depicted to children.

It seems like we do celebrate them as heroes.
I agree. It's the national media that generally, IMO, tried to tear them down.

A newspiece on good cops is just as valid as those on the nasty psychopaths that departments hire.

I always liked the Andy Griffith style of policework.

What the U.S Can Learn from Countries Where Cops Are Unarmed
This make me kind of wonder a bit.
Like the culture surrounding US cops differs even in comparison to Oz. Where our cops are armed

Like yeah our cops can be…well not very polite, let’s just put it that way lol.
But, just an observation, even they don’t seem nearly as aggressive or trigger happy. They seem to have a little bit of (begrudging) patience. I didn’t really see that when I visited my fam in California. I mean even our travel agent explicitly warned us not to even look the wrong way at a copper over there lol

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

It really depends on where you are.

I've cracked jokes with officers , got yelled at a few times, but was completely compliant and calm. My philosophy is if you feel slighted or violated, that's what the courts are for, as well as knowing I'm not the only one if the encounter was unpleasant.

I mean I don’t think every cop is some trigger happy authoritarian in the US. But they have that reputation even overseas. And where there’s smoke there’s fire, as they say

But I suppose if you approach a police officer looking for a friend is probably going to be taken better than approaching a cop looking for a fight. Though some might just be jerks regardless

I am convinced that the majority of police, if not trigger happy authoritarians themselves, are willing to accept or even defend the trigger happy authoritarians in their ranks.

And this problem does not exist only in the U.S.
