Genesis 2:7 (King James Version)
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 2:17 (King James Version)
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Ezekiel 18:20
The soul who sins shall die....

Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Thessalonians 1:9
They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.

Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them,

Revelation 20:14
Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death.
None of these address the eternal or temporal nature of the soul. Especially the OT references.

We are an imperfect species. Many have yet to overcome instinctual biological behaviors. Sad really we have the capability to feed the world if we worked together. But for various reasons we cannot. We are all still just a bunch of animals.
I don't accept that. I believe that I (and indeed everyone else who is human) is MORE than just an animal. I believe that I am more than the sum of my own parts, and that there is more to this little, random, insignificant accident called "life". That's what gives me hope for the future, and why I choose to believe. :)

Actually, they do. Because if a soul has a beginning and an end, then by definition it is NOT eternal. I'm not sure how that could be "addressed" anymore clearly. :sarcastic

I don't think so but I take my inspiration from the Bible which states that Jesus was the only one born with an immortal soul.
Um... where might I ask does the Bible state this? Oh wait... looks like you're no longer with us. I guess that would mean that your particular soul was not immortal. :D 1 point for you.

What does your particular religion teach? Soul Immortal or no?
I'm going to assume that you are using the word "soul" as I would use the word "spirit." If I am wrong about that, please correct me. I believe that our spirits are indeed immortal and eternal. I believe they existed prior to the creation of our physical bodies, inhabit our physical bodies during mortality, exist again as cognizant entities after we die, and will reinhabit our perfected physical bodies at the time we are resurrected.

To me, the "soul" is the entity which results when the spirit resides within a physical body. The physical body dies when then spirit leaves it. At that point, there is no longer a "living soul" but there continues to be a living spirit.

Ok while I do not agree with you in the regard of being just evolved form of animals. Because I do believe we are. Thus we still have animal instincts. I think your position in this world is not insignificant. Nor is it accidental. Imagine how many things had to happen for you to come into being. You come biologically from those that survived massive wars and massive diseases. People who made the right choices at the right time to survive. Your ancestors as most of ours have been at one time or another were slaves/surfs/indentured servants and yet they never gave up and they freed themselves or worked for their freedom. This life right here right now is a gift. You have this life through all of these processes. Your the evolved species that can try to make a difference and enjoy it.

Little story about myself. I grew up in an extremely religious background. Not extremely religious parents. Christian for a long time. But I'll admit throwing away religion is tough at first and at times still can be. At first you look up to the sky and are sad and even angry because there isn't someone there. But then you feel empowered almost freed because your realize you are in responsibility of your own destiny.

But that's my two cents

I believe the soul is only a self created concept through developped intelligence, I think that if you don't have a concept of your own soul, you don't have one e.g babies? I believe that when we die, the brain stops working and therefore we have no soul form that point on.

What does born mean?

Brought into,
Revealed,
Uncovered.
Showed,
Projected?

So the soul is a figment of your imagination?

Back when I considered myself a Christian, I used to believe I had a soul.
But as my concept of reality changed I saw that view as wishful thinking based on a fantasy explanation of reality.
I have no recollection of my existence before birth (actually I have memories from about 2) and I do not expect I will have any consciousness beyond my death.
All it takes is a nice Long Island Ice Tea to show how your consciousness is affected by bio-chemistry. When the chemistry/biology stops so does consciousness. You are no longer that which is you.

You're absolutely right about that.
Actually he isn't, and neither are you for agreeing with him. Clearly, the scripture say that the soul has a beginning and for many will also have an end. It is therefore neither eternal, nor immortal (by definition). The point can't be made any clearer unless you are willingly ignorant.

No, but it does heavily imply it. The whole "with God in the beginning", and "second coming" and "sitting at God's right hand" stuff. That essentially spells out eternal soul, wouldn't you say? :sarcastic

Hi Captain,

Didn't notice your question there, I guess I should have checked in earlier.

I wasn't intending to deny the immortality of Jesus' soul, guess I should have clarified which part of the statement I was disagree-ing with.

Yes We are not Born with an Immortal Soul, we are Immortal Soul Having Human Body

So the human body is born with an immortal soul... You're saying the exact same thing under the cover of pretentious phony mysticism. Basically saying "the bird doesn't have feathers, the feathers have a bird", as if it matters.

Okay, so you're calling me willingly ignorant. Not a particularly nice way of putting it. I'll just call you unintentionally mistaken in your interpretation.
