Pornography Declared "Public Health Crisis"

But when you're watching porn, how do you know that the participants in what you're watching are not being forced to participate? Or is that just something you shrug off as unimportant?
I try to stay away from videos that are from sketchy people, companies and series's. I've come across some stuff that could have probably have been rape but it was sketchy to begin with. The stuff I tend to watch is from well-known performers and studios.

As a side comment about porn, I have heard from various younger married friends that porn is causing problems with their marriages.
The wives might not necessarily be against their husbands watching porn, but they highly suspect that porn viewing by their spouses is
greatly decreasing the frequency of their sexual encounters. In other words, the husbands are using porn for their sexual satisfaction and not spending that time
interacting with their wives. Their sexual desire is satiated by porn and therefore they don't want sex as frequently.

Don't kill me for mentioning this, I've just heard it at least a dozen times over the last few years. I'm not surprised it's become a problem for some couples.

I love porn! It's been so long since it actually happened to me that I'm afraid I forgot how, so the instructional aspect is good. Now, if I can just get that 6 foot tall blond with the big boobs to deliver pizza to my house.

And that is precisely why the LDS Church has taken such a strong stance against it. I'm sure there are exceptions, but far more marriages are damaged by porn that are made better by it. Your post is just basically a statement of the facts, but you can get away with saying what you did a lot easier than I could.

Over and out.

Possibly, but porn isn't created to make marriages better. It's like saying "far more marriages are damaged by a loaded gun in the dresser drawer than are made better by one." Loaded guns in dresser drawers aren't meant to make marriages better.

That said, I know two couples, and have heard of others, who find watching porn, usually together, to enhance their sex lives.

I actually know a woman who left her husband because he could only perform with porn on in the bedroom, and bondage and whipping type porn at that.

Considering Utah is one of the most religious states in the union.

And porn use tends to be higher amongst fundamentalist populations around the world.

It would seem fundamentalism is the public health crisis and porn usage is a symptom of it.

By the connections you seem to be making here, it seems you are implying that Utah is one of the highest consumers or porn in the US. Is that what you are implying? Please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't know either way, I'd just be very surprised if that were the case and would like to see you back it up, if that's what you are meaning.

Besides its political bent, Utah's per capita appetite for online pornography makes it the nation's run-away red-light state.

A study by a Harvard Business School professor shows that Utah outpaces the more conservative states -- which all tend to purchase more Internet porn than other states.

Online porn subscription rates are higher in states that enacted conservative legislation banning same-sex marriage or civil unions and where surveys show support for conservative positions on religion, gender roles and sexuality, according to an analysis published in the Journal of Economic Perspectives.

Utah is probably higher than most states when it comes to online porn for the simple reason that this is the only porn that is really available in Utah. In other words, you can't really buy it at all in stores here, so the statistic, while true, is not all that meaningful in terms of overall porn consumption.

I agree with the title. I love porn too (ehhhm), but that should not make me come up with excuses otherwise just because I like it.

No one has the right to kill you for it. You're giving your honest and respectful view.

I agree. Let alone encouraging people to cheat on their spouses with other partners, and that's a destruction to the family. Porn is giving even me crazy ideas. Generally speaking, porn is a potential (I'm not saying a true) enemy to the family. All those perfectly open with I know liked watching porn, told me they stopped doing it after getting married. Respect to them.

It is indeed something that needs to be taken into account.

I could not find a list of states that prohibit the sale of non-internet porn. If you could find a source for this we could see if there is a correlation between the legal sale of non-internet porn and lower internet pornography use.

We could also investigate the percentages of internet porn to non-internet porn use and see if this is a significant factor/.

That being said if fundamentalism was indeed stopping people from viewing porn, the internet porn usage should be way lower than non-fundamental states.

I went home last night, and watched 4 hours of porn just to see what the hoopla is about, and I can say with utter certainty, my arms hurt.

....or "udder" certainty?

I'm responding just so that you don't think I'm intentionally ignoring you... If you can't find such a list, I don't think I'd be able to either. I do suspect that non-internet porn is easier to come by in most states than it is in Utah, but I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you in analyzing the situation any further.

This question is for the women posters on RF. If you had an incredibly nice body and were, therefore, physically suited to be a porn star, would you choose to be one or not? Please explain the reason for your answer.

I personally wouldn't, because I have pretty bad trust issues and intimacy is a little awkward for me.

But, I would not stop a woman, from my family or otherwise, from entering into porn if that were her choice. Nor would I shame, shun or treat her as a lesser being.
People have been making porn ever since we learnt how to make pictures. And now suddenly it's a "Public Health Concern?" Perhaps one should look at how sex is viewed and discussed by society before dumping all the woes upon the makers and shakers of the world's oldest professions. (Not directed at you, just speaking generally.)
Hell don't sex workers have their very own Union and are forever negotiating wages and workplace health and safety concerns? Well they do where I live. And many women are now making their own porn exclusively for women (heterosexual and otherwise) because they feel their fantasies are not always reflected in mainstream porn.
