Should pornography be bannes? If so, is it because or partially because it exploits women?

It's ridiculous isn't it? Every industry can be criticised, including how women are depicted in movies which has been discussed in this forum and that's acceptable, but if you criticise pornography, you are a puritian? :/
I listed criteria for a particular brand of modern puritanism, which are not as simplistic as mere criticism.
It is about the kind of criticism & the strong advocacy against the existence of the industry, which belies
motives other than those proffered.

I seriously don't see what the fuss is about with what Alceste is saying. She offered safety, solutions, education, etc, to improve things. A conservative wouldn't do that!
The word "conservative" has multiple definitions, & to delete the prefix "social" is to deflect from the social conservatism I see.
You & others are certainly welcome to disagree with what I see, but tis another matter when my meaning is altered.

Note: I have no problem with anyone believing that porn & prostitution are morally wrong.
I disagree, but it's just my opinion. I ain't got no truth or any such thing. Moreover, as with
so many others, I advocate workplace safety. I enforce it in my own workplaces, where
workers wear safety glasses, knee pads, steel toed shoes, but no condoms....not needed.

Oh really? I thought we were talking about the porn industry as it stands now, not some hypothetical future in which it is "regulated." How do suppose it should be regulated?

Just basic employee rights, like any other job. Right now it is self regulated. Porn companies should be required to provide and enforce the use of basic personal protective equipment. Some do, but they aren't required to. You could interpret some OSHA standards to apply to porn, but none specifically apply to porn and either way, OSHA has been broken for a while now but that is a separate issue altogether.

What do you think should actually change? I'm guessing from the posts that DP should stay because of the high pay for it?

Do you believe DP and acts similar should be banned even if a woman is consenting?

I was looking for something a bit more
specific. Do you think it should just be clean with condom use or more should be done? What are OSHA standards? And how should they be applied to the industry?

I'm not advocating for a ban on anything. Do think certain acts should not take place e.g DP in order to protect actors from harm, like stop their anuses from failing out or having to be sewed up? I'm not asking do you think it should be banned, I just want to know from you personally if you think it should be happening.
How do we regulate the porn industry to stop cohesion?

Is it acceptable to criticise alcohol and drug use on set because of issues of consent for example?
What criticisms do you have a problem with?

I just don't see why dirty, penis-hungry sluts shouldn't have jobs which utilize their particular skillsets. Everyone should have the opportunity to contribute in their own way.

I am talking about just basic standards. I don't even know that I would mandate the use of condoms if they can provide reliable, medical proof they are free of STDs. I don't see why we can't extend the duties of health inspectors to inspect porn shoots. It's all about money, once the fines start coming in, they will comply.

As far as DP goes, it's not my thing, I don't like watching it and I would never do it, but if consenting adults want to do it for whatever reason, go for it.

As for what I see it seems more copicaed than that.

There are medical check ups, but 1- they arent as throurough as the should and 2- (and most importantly) they cant force the actors to use condoms on their personal sexual lifes after check up, so even if they were clean then, they may contract STDs after the check up, and both actors and actresses of porn are quite promiscuous in their oersonal lives apparently.

To choke on a penis is a legitimate skill and should be accepted on a CV.

I think not chocking on the penis is the skill.

Then again, I wouldnt know :D

I wonder if there is a world record for that? I ve heard way sillier and less practical records around.

Well that is impossible!

ok but inspect it for what exactly?

[Maybe they should have a nurse on set too.[/B]

But you didn't answer my other question... How can we regulate the industry to stop cohesion?

Well some pornographers want the women to choke on the penis so they can throw up, or just choke on the penis because they want to sell violent sex in general.

What criticism is acceptable to you?
Criticism based upon one's values (subjective) & based upon evidence (objective) are fine.
If I disagree with such criticism, that is no problem.

Is it acceptable to criticise depictions of women in pornography like in movies for example?
Is it acceptable to criticise alcohol and drug use on set because of issues of consent for example?
Yes & yes.

What criticisms do you have a problem with?
As I said in post #437.....
- Claim horrible indirect consequences, ie, even if the parties immediately involved are in a voluntary relationship, & neither suffer nor cause direct harm to anyone.
- Make the vague & subjective claim that someone is "dehumanized", that marriage made less "sacred", or that the family is "destroyed".
- Redefine terms to demonize them, eg, calling porn "prostitution".
- Paint an entire group in the most extreme way, eg, homos are child abusers, porn actors are helpless victims, homos want to convert straights.
I'll add....
- Shaky evidence offered as factual.

And what do think our real motives are?
This is a mine field, since people will differ, but some possibilities are:
- Prudery
- Placing women on a pedestal
- Seeing women generally as victims of men's lust
- A desire to have government steer us in a utopian direction where everyone sets a positive example.
- A misplaced notion that a problem will be mitigated: These women have suffered as children, causing them to enter the field. But if the field didn't exist, the symptom of the problem would abate.

Note that this list is general, possibly incomplete, & not to be applied to any individual.
