Gah! I miss Krispy Kreme. They tried Krispy Kreme briefly here in Rhode Island. We had one location, and Dunkin Donuts quickly drove it out of business. Even though everyone agreed that Krispy Kreme doughnuts are far superior, we're not big doughnut eaters here. Visitors to the state have a hard time believing that, since there's a Dunkin Donuts about every 200 ft (the Providence Civic Center is now the Dunkin Donuts Center, I kid you not) but what they don't realize is that it's not about the doughnuts at all; it's the coffee. We're coffee fanatics. Coffe milk, coffe ice cream, you name it. But man, how I miss the occassional Krispy Kreme doughnut...
Add the grease drums of a Vietnamese restaurant and a crotchety old man sitting on the loading dock of a hardware store "humph"-ing at any passersby who looked less than 30, and that'd pretty much be the view from the front door of the last place I lived when I was in school. Ah, memories. This was my "front yard." Yup, an alley. My apartment would be to the right of this picture, this is pointing at the road.
Keep an eye out for Tim Hortons. They're all over the place in Canada and they're the reason that Dunkin' Donuts has never really found a foothold here. I saw a Timmy's in Portland, ME last time I was there, so they're spreading south. Watch and wait.Gah! I miss Krispy Kreme. They tried Krispy Kreme briefly here in Rhode Island. Well, back in the old country, we called that a "hug."
