According to Christianity, Satan was banished from heaven for being envious and proud.
Does self-pride hinder spiritual growth?
I say yes!

According to Milton (Paradise Lost) and some Christians, Satan was banished from heaven for envy and pride.
Many Christians realize this is not Biblically sound doctrine.;)

Pride a wonderful thing is! If you pathetic humans more pride in yourselves took, you & your planet in better shape would be!
But instead, false pride you have, so afraid to face & be truthful about your shortcomings you are! So never overcome them
will you. And as for you Dark Lord's justified pride, no problem it is. To have My own realm I wanted!

Milton...pbbbbt! Some extra hot lava for him tonight I shall dispense!

Isn’t this the truth! This world could certainly use people caring more about themselves and leading good lives and less with what other people are doing in and out of their own places of worship and their bedrooms.

LOL. Well, let's start over then? Pride, no; hubris, yes.

Have you ever seen Joan Of Arcadia?

no..I haven't.
There's a great scene where God lectures Joan on the importance of pride, with the line "You can't be humble until you have something to be proud about." Which pretty much sums up my view.

It's one thing to take pride in your own achievements - this is normal and healthy. Quite another to think they make you better than everyone else.

True Dat!!..But I'm talking more about people who think they are right the majority of the time when it comes to religion, spirituality, theology or ideology. So much so, that they literally hear what they want to hear and disregard anything else :ignore:.
I mean; even I have some pride in what I believe but I try not to let it prevent me from opening up my mind to different interpretations or perceptions.

I'd definitely call that hubris. And yeah... it inhibits spiritual growth (not to mention, makes people dislike you).

In my opinion God is a BIG ? (mystery) so I feel that If a person really wants to know if there is a God or about God, It is a never-ending journey. It only ends when we die.

I think in this matter, we need to recognize that the word "pride" just isn't specific enough to use.

Having good self-esteem is essential to spiritual growth; otherwise, we'd never make any progress. However, the spiritual path is about self-improvement, which is a constant direction. If a person ever gets to the point where he/she says "I've completed the journey and have become perfect", that person actually has a lot farther to go.
