I very firm, unambiguous statement, it depends.Do I support capital punishment? It depends. Not always.

If you can show me the bright line distinction between a
baby and a fetus, go for it.
That and other reasons. Sometimes it isn't necessary or pragmaticOnly when there is no possibility of making a mistake?
Maybe some day it will no longer be an issue,...
This is a political fad which will have to play out. Then you will be able to make a compromise, but currently there can be no compromise. There is a tremendous difference in the two meanings. The diffetence is seen after the birth occurs and into childhood. The politicians are getting closer to the Death Penalty for abortion providers and some states have jail time on the books for the woman getting the abortion.
Look closer at how these states allocate funds for those born into poverty. It pretty much says it all.
Why would I take you as the arbitrator of which human being qualifies as having personhood and which human being does not?Personhood.
Personhood. I know the concept of person is debatable ....

Almost everyone knows this. There is a tremendous difference in the two meanings.
Personhood. I know the concept of person is debatable but a fetus isn't a person but a child out of the womb is.
You can't compare the plight of the slave to that of unborn fetuses. Why would I take you as the arbitrator of which human being qualifies as having personhood and which human being does not?
You rather remind me of the 19th century US slavers who didn't think that black human beings qualified for personhood. Or natives.
"Personhood" is such a subjective term that people often use it to justify killing human beings that they don't find convenient for their ideology.

I pretty much use the dictionary when it comes to defining terms. You get to invent your own definitions?
You simply made that up, an arbitrary and capricious
distinction with no basis in reality.
Oh yes I can.You can't compare the plight of the slave to that of unborn fetuses.
This is just as a "2 by 4" isn't 2 by 4 inches, but every carpenter knows what it means.
Does a fetus have volition and self-awareness? Is it capable of making decisions? Does it act on its own? Does it even know it is in a womb?Oh yes I can.
They are all human beings.
Perhaps you should google "lifecycle of a primate", so you can see for yourself what biologists say.
Tom
You just need some carpentry training. It ain't??? Dang! No wonder I keep coming up short.
A baby in mothers womb react to sound touch and it remember this voices when it get born so yes they can think, feel. it does not just happen in the moment it get born that it suddenly start to hear, smell, see and feel.Does a fetus have volition and self-awareness? Is it capable of making decisions? Does it act on its own? Does it even know it is in a womb?
Not in reality, but it does have a basis in the law.You get to invent your own definitions?
