There have been those who've openly defended Putin and his invasion, yet the only reasons I've been able to glean from what's been given has either been A.) Those harboring butthurt towards "the west" in general, or B.) MAGA cultists who, because Trump licked Putin's boots, feel obligated to follow suit out of loyalty.
Nothing actually substantiated or rational, unless I've missed or overlooked something?
I have been critical of NATO-U.S. expansion policy, especially against Russia armed with thermonuclear weapons.
But I have not defended Putin, whom I consider despotic to a large extent considering the assassination of Russian opposition politicians, notably Boris Nemtsov and persecution of Alexei Navalny, the russian opposition leader in the russian parliament. If you have noticed, a large opposition campaign had been rising up against Putin in the last few years.
However, it is NATO-U.S. that is aiding Putin at the moment, as their expansionist policy and condescending attitude towards Russia is stoking Russian insecurities and hence most Russians keep on supporting Putin . Any politican worth his salt would know how to take advantage of this situation to keep himself in power. Many politicians throughout the world uses external threats as a way of keeping themselves in power through propaganda by projecting themselves as saviors or champions who would not bow to foreign threats.
If the NATO-U.S. had kept a safe distance from Russia and did not pose a security threat to them, Russian insecurities would not have been stoked. They would have minded their own business, that is building Russian democratic institutions, crippled economy and ensuring fairness and transparency in their democractic process.
The 2021 NOBEL peace award was awarded to a Russian journalist named Dmitry Muratov for his efforts in promoting fairness and transparency in the Russian media.
