Question for ex-JW's

I was never baptized, but I was a member of a Kingdom Hall until I was about 15.

Going door to door was humiliating. There is nothing worse to a pubescent boy than knocking on a door and having his middle school crush answer it. I swear it's the reason I'm still somewhat anti-social to this day.
LOL seems like a good way to meet boys!

I'm always pleasant with the young Mormon missionaries who come to tell me about Joseph Smith and Jesus's adventures in outer space and Utah blood-sacrifice or whatever. I'm at least 15 years too old for them, but it's always for to watch em squirm.

As I expected. No other sharing X-JWs online.

My last field service story.
It was difficult for me to get away for the field service but most weeks I did it. It was rare for me to go on a Saturday because of my obligations to my family but one Saturday I was happy to do it. So I got dressed, drove to the meeting, sat through and went out with the group.

I shall mention the time cards. There were few fixed rules about what constituted actual preaching time. We never counted the travel to the kingdom hall, some people did not count travel to the territory (I didn't) and breaks were not counted either. But walking or driving from house to house was counted after visiting the first house whether someone was there or not.

I remember one Saturday doing that routine. In no way is any part of the JW organization a democracy so if there is a JW man present you just do what he says we will do. He decided on a sit-down breakfast.

The meeting starts at 9 am and usually the group gets back to the Kingdom Hall at 12 noon. I start thinking about going out in the field service and getting ready at 8 am and then I drive there. The meeting takes a half hour. Then driving to the territory takes another 1/2 approx. It is rare to find someone to talk to and it is even rare to find someone home. So that morning nothing was accomplished before the habitual break time. Usually the break is fast enough. The driver decides where to stop for a bathroom break, a drink or even something to eat. Many times the group sits for awhile.

Nobody says a word in protest when brother Break decides to go out to eat with waiter service.

I thought of all the things I might rather be doing and also that I had only a half hour to put down for the day for a four hour day. 8 am - 12 pm plus the drive home.

I never knew that about you. Thanks for posting this.

I have some really good friends who are Mormons. The ones who are still my friends said they understood why I did not believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet and were okay with it. They were from Washington and Idaho and still communicate with my family. They are pretty cool. One of them said they were not a Mormon anymore and had forsaken the Mormon way of thinking. I sure hope I had some influence there.

I admire how Mormons in metro-Atlanta are a family who really do care for each other.

I do not remember exactly. It might have been fifteen minutes.

I was a JW for over thirty years. It was proven to me that all other religions were false. Yes they do teach their members how to identify a false religion. There are things they never talk about. They do not teach anything about the scrolls. They teach the bible is Gods word.
I will tell you a truth, but please do not take my word on this, prove it for yourself. It was the emperor Constantine who had the bible made. Of the over fifty scrolls in use when Jesus was on earth, Constantine took only four scrolls to build his Christian bible. The bible is nothing more than a man made book giving religious leaders a position between Jesus and man. The other scrolls prove, “No man is needed between Jesus and those who want to serve God. The four scrolls taken to build this false book called the bible, do not match 100%. Many scriptures have been left out, words here and there have been changed to make the religions appear from God.
A true Christian will follow the scrolls. I took the knowledge given to me by JW’s on how to prove other religions were false, and examined the JW’s. It not only is a false religion, it is a cult…easy to prove. All religions, and their bible are false, and not from God…but please, do not take my word for it…test it out yourself.
God is real, and the scrolls can be proven to be Gods word. Religions and their false bible are designed to turn people away from God. From the questions, and beliefs I read on this forum, religions and the bible are doing what they are designed to do…turn millions away from God.

I agree with you except for two things.
A true Christian will follow the scrolls
I think a true Christian follows the Christ. Yes, we do know him through what is written.
God is real, and the scrolls can be proven to be Gods word.
God is real and the one called "Jesus" can be proved to one's self to be God's Word. Yes, we learn God's Word by what was written.
I don't think anything about God can be proved outside one's own self.

So how do you recommend one finds the true God?

What have I been wrong about? Am I wrong in saying that if you don't stop worshipping false gods, that you will never know the true God?

Well, I said that maybe you were wrong. Surely you don't think your entire post above is 100% without fail 100% infallible?

There is no talking sense to a Christian. If I could show you God so you could hear from God Himself, you would still believe your fables. There needs to be a deprogramming clinic somewhere, where professionals can bring brainwashed people back to reality. I mean no offense, many years ago I was a fundamentalist Christian myself.

No, thanks. Your deprogramming involves programming. I will have none of that.

Really? And whom do you propose to be the "professionals" to do the deprogramming?

I remember feeling uncomfortable each time I would hear from the stand that someone was disfellowshipped because that was all they would say. We were never told what sin they were sinning and we were not allowed to talk about the person or to the person.

After I left the JWs because I got it from an elder that the governing body is to be obeyed no matter what, I finally got up the courage to go online. I had heard warnings from the gb about it so I didn't do it right away and of course, I did not do it while I was one. I think those online here from the JWs are funny.

Anyway, I found out about one JW woman who was disfellowshipped for her contention against the teaching that Jesus came invisibly in 1914. I realize the JWs might say that there surely was more to it than that but that is them teaching suspicious. I am sure God doesn't want that.
