Shias sure hold Ali, his wife and his descendants in very high regard.
Having recently read a book about the early days of Islaam just before and after Muhammad's death, I feel considerably better equipped to understand the context and the significance of certain key people of those times.
I have to assume that most readers who are not Muslims will have a hard time understanding the roles of those people.
Maybe you would like to give us a few words about the context of those people and their roles at some point,
@zahra67 ?
yes, sure, my pleasure!
when we want to pray and request somethings from Allah, we pray and request our need by resorting to them:
request God to grand us our need for there sake and reputation.
some of there virtues and blessings in the holy Quran:
verse 207 of chapter 2 is revealed about virtue and devotion of imam ali for saving the life of prophet Mohammad (blessings of Allah upon him and his progeny) for martyrdom by plot of the enemies.
And among men is he who sells himself to seek the pleasure of Allah; and Allah is Affectionate to the servants.
some verses of chapter 5:
verse 3:
On this day I have perfected your religion, completed My favors to you, and have chosen Islam as your religion.
this verse refers to ghadir event and imam ali and the imams after him, are complete favor and perfection of religion according to above verse.35:
O you who believe! be careful of (your duty to) Allah and seek means of nearness to Him and strive hard in His way that you may be successful.
they are means of nearness to Allah.
verse 55:
Only Allah is your Vali and His Messenger and those who believe, those who keep up prayers and pay the poor-rate while they bow.
this verse is revealed about imam ali (blessingsof Allah upon him, when he gave his ring to a needy.
verse 56:
And whoever takes Allah and His messenger and those who believe for a guardian, then surely the party of Allah are they that shall be triumphant.
verse 67:
O Messenger! deliver what bas been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from the people;
verse 33 of chapter 33 the infinite merciful God mentions there infallibility.
Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House! and to purify you a (thorough) purifying.
verses 5 until 22 of chapter 76 refers to there devotion:
They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide.
And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive:
We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks:
until verse 22:
chapter 108 which is revealed in the time of borning and blessings of hazrat fatimah (blessings of Allah upon her).
in the name of Allah the all-merciful, the most merciful.
Surely We have given you Kausar,
Therefore pray to your Lord and make a sacrifice.
Surely your enemy is the one who shall be without posterity.
verse 23 of chapter 42:
Allah says the reward for mission of prophet Mohammad is love for his progeny.
That is of which Allah gives the good news to His servants, (to) those who believe and do good deeds. Say: I do not ask of you any reward for it but love for my near relatives; and whoever earns good, We give him more of good therein; surely Allah is Forgiving, Grateful.
Allah recommends His servants to resort to His covenant, which necessitates getting to know Hablullah:
And hold fast by the covenant of Allah all together and be not disunited. (3:13)
Imam al-Baqir (a.s) has said about the meaning of this covenant with Allah:
The Household of Muhammad is the covenant of Allah as recommended by Allah.
we all muslims have a very authentic narration from our prophet:
hadith al-thaqalayn:
Sulayman al-A’mash, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Abu al-Tufayl, from Zayd ibn Arqam, may God be pleased with him, who said: "The Messenger of Allah , may God's peace and benedictions be upon him and his progeny, while returning from his last hajj (hijjat al-wada') came down at Ghadir Khumm and ordered (us) towards the big trees, and (the ground) underneath them was swept.
"Then he said, 'I am about to answer the call (of death). Verily, I have left behind two precious things amongst you, one of which is greater than the other. The Book of Allah, the Exalted, and my ‘itrah (kindred). So watch out how you treat these two after me, for verily they will not separate from each other until they come back to me by the side of the Pond.' Then he said 'Verily, Allah, the Almighty and the Glorious, is my master (mawla) and I am the master of every believer (mu'min).' Then he took ‘Ali, may God be pleased with him, by the hand and said, 'This (‘Ali) is the master of whomever I am his master. O God, love whoever loves him and be the enemy of his enemy.'"
also this is one another butiful narration from our prophet (blessings of Allah upon him and his progeny)
Behold! My Ahl al-Bayt are security and mercy for you. Therefore, love them for my sake and resort to them so that you will never go astray… These are Ali, my two grandsons and nine borne of Husayn who are trustworthy and infallible Imams. Behold! They are the Ahl al-Bayt and my honour - from my flesh and my blood.
they are source of mercy and ark of salvation for mankind.
imam husayn peace be upon him says:
We do not know why people harbor enmity against us while we are from the House of mercy, the tree of Prophethood and the source of knowledge.
the best book for introducing there virtues is my beloved book which i sent its link in many of my posts:
i read its content in only two days entirely! and cried out of joy many times!
