Well as you have said celestial means something referring to sky. I did some research, on your request and: the arabic word used in the verse is " Falak" which means something related to sky. In context used, this can be translated as celestial.I am providing the word in Arabic below:

[FONT=Verdana,Arial] فَلَكٍ [/FONT]

Doesn't this tell you that the writers were not including Earth in this verse since Earth is clearly not an object in the sky?

Red herring.
The earth is not a part of the sky when on the earth.
Now if you were on mars, the earth would be a part of the sky.
But since noone back then was talking about when they were on mars (or any other planet) you are merely setting up a straw man.

There's no need to interpret, the verse is clear.
the failure is only a perception of one who is devoid of
Divine Guidance.
and here lies the problem it only makes sense in this particular belief system, it depends on it being true so it must be true,
