Everything from Covid, to Trump, to climate change, to LGBT issues.

Utah teacher no longer employed after advocating vaccination and telling students she hates Trump

This is why activism needs to stay out of schools. It's a place for learning, not indoctrination.
Whilst highly unprofessional, this is considered “radical left wing” in America?
Geez. I know really right wing folks who would agree with her. Granted I’m not American, but even your supposed left wing seems rather mildly centrist to me

Not when it has that Becky Fischer zeal behind it.

Meh, I’ve certainly had teachers like that. Ironically I learnt the most in their classes
And to be fair, “that Becky Fischer zeal” is applicable to pretty much every political rant I’ve ever seen from the US regardless of political opinions

It is uncanny how 'religious' things can get with people on various things.

Really though, she should be just teaching Chemistry.

Well as a student was quoted as saying, "This is a chemistry class".

Your comment wasn't only about this specific case, but more to the idea that teachers should avoid all activism and indoctrination.
In my experience (as a teacher) most people only really mean 'activism and indoctrination that I disagree with', rather than ALL.
And (further) I would suggest that in some cases activism and indoctrination are somewhat appropriate for schools. But it's contextual, and shouldn't include teachers going rogue and forcing opinions down students throats.

With the recent political climate of the US, that I can certainly agree with.
Whilst I do not begrudge anyone their political opinions, it did always skeeve me out whenever I saw a really hardcore Trump or Obama supporter. I’m not talking regular Republican or Democrat, or even just enthusiastic supporters. I’m talking about the really hardcore extreme folks who made their politics into their entire identity.
And then you have the absolute religious zeal of the “Qanon” movement, which weirdly started out on the known troll boards of 4chan. I’m both fascinated and horrified. It’s actually really sad because it has caused real life harm to people.

Really though, she should be just teaching Chemistry.
True. But you’ve never tried to sidetrack your opinionated teacher in class? That was often the best part. My old high school English/History teacher despised Hitler. So whenever we felt like slacking off in English class, we’d causally ask her something about Nazi Germany. The rants were beyond epic.

Honestly I had teachers like that, discussing personal views and beliefs. Never in any antagonistic belittling manner though, which is likely the reason she was canned as opposed to the topics alone.

Perhaps. Though this is reawakening memories of my teachers who would use belittling techniques and antagonism as a sort of “tough love” approach to their teaching styles. :coldsweat::disappointed:

I used to be terrified of those kind of teachers.

Lol omg same!
It was worse when I was in the younger years of high school or as you Americans call it “jr high.” I was so awkward and shy and those teachers were ruthless. Good teachers in hindsight, but man. The very definition of “we’re only trying to prepare for the real world”
*shudders*

Good riddance. It's like she wanted to be fired with the insulting things she was saying, though:

"The teacher then says: “Go tattle on me to the freakin’ admin. They don’t give a crap.”

She urges students, too, to turn off Fox News and think for themselves. She says they don’t have to listen to their parents, including about the vaccine if they want to get it. She tells them that most of their parents are “dumber than you.”"

Heated debates in class are one thing and debate should be encouraged but this was a woman barking at her chemistry students, insulting them, their parents and making other inappropriate comments. I'm tempted to say they should take her license away for her abusive behavior.

Yes, I wouldn't have accepted her approach and manner if I were in charge.
The topics themselves are less interesting to me, although that gets a little trickier, as you'd need to know more about the school, etc. I hesitate to speak on that with any force.

So she was fired for a breach of decorum?
How was it concluded that she was radical, left-wing, or an activist?

Now, had she taught that molecules assemble or interact without intelligent guidance, would that have been radical or offensive?

You know it's sad teachers can't be as creative and strategic as they used to be.

For example, she could just have used Covid and the vaccine as a teaching tool, explaining how things like viruses work and the chemistry used in the development of vaccines showing how it all works on a molecular and chemical level.

Two birds in one stone, and the engagement of students to boot.

Teachers with emotional and activist mindsets fostering antagonistic learning environments have no place teaching in a school as it discourages the joy of learning and fosters hostility.
