Random Homeless Person Dies Today.

People acting like human beings.

Some people finding that reason to put down others.

In other news, water is wet.

People are commit suicide each day at a rate that boggles my mind. Yet "human beings" seem not to really care, we walk over their corpses and go along with are daily business as if nothing happened. Yet when some celebrity who we equally do not really know dies, they we become professional mourners. Yeah it is sad that a famous wealthy man couldn't fight his demons and lost to them, but what is even more sadder is that this stuff is going on with people probably close to you and we are even noticing them. That is sad and it is hypocritical and it gets me angry. Sorry I don't mean to insult you guys but I just don't understand this.

While I do agree with your general sentiment, if people spent their time mourning every single death that occurred, nothing would get done.

It is quite imperfect, but it is only hypocritical if we claim to be fair.

You know, Cynthia, I am not a very forgiving or reasonable person, but you make me look like a wannabee in the high expectations department.

I wish it were not too personal to ask whether you have been subjected to high demands since very young.

That's pretty much how it works. When it comes to famous people you're a big fan of, you form an emotional connection with them/their work. They're inspirations and heroes to you. The people I've been the most upset about dying are: Left Eye, Aaliyah (I was a kid when they died), Dimebag Darrell (I cried when I heard he was he was killed) and Whitney Houston (I'm still upset about her passing). I was sad when Anna Nicole Smith died, too. Not because I was a big fan of her, really, but because people were making fun of her death and celebrating it and that was a horrible way to treat a human being that, while troubled, never hurt anyone and who was obviously murdered (along with her beloved son) for her money.

I know what you mean. I was very upset at David Rappaports death as well as that of David Carradine who got so many insults and nasty comments about the manner of his death in Bangkok.

Some lives matter to each of us more than others.
That's not wrong or hypocritical. It's normal & healthy.

I don't know. It just with all that is going on in the world today, the death of a celebrity seems so inconsequential.

It occurs to me that based on the interaction with the thread creator. This is not a real memorial and should be moved to a debate thread.

Keeping it here is not respectful to the real memorials.

Mmhmm. The closest I've come to that is visiting sites like Best Gore a lot in the past. After awhile, vicariously feeling that much pain and suffering can cause you to break down and not function. I'm well-aware about how horrible the world is and I've spent a good chunk of my young life meditating on it, even being severely depressed and wanting to off myself (partially) due to my despair from it. I'm ready to move on.

good point. but the reason you pulled the trigger now and especially today, is that you are probably among the most saddened. it is a defense mechanism which will work and i dont mean to say what you imply is empty, it is correct. and since it is correct, i know almost for sure that you are sad.
but dont make people get angry with you the next time. you dont deserve it and they should be able to manage it.

...and no one gives two ***** because they rather pretend mourn a celebrity.

News at 11.

Maybe I didn't know him, but Mr. Williams made hours of my life brighter by his making me laugh via his films and TV show.

It doesn't make me mourn the loss of others who were not famous any less.

However, I will also say this:

It's sad when practically anyone dies. People are not mere statistics. They are living souls who have friends, families, dreams, and fears. When most people die, someone will be affected.

That being said, the difference being between a homeless person dying and someone like Mr. Williams is that we (at least to some degree) know the personality of the latter and feel as if we know them. As such, when a celebrity dies, we mourn them, because what we think we know of them is gone. We have an attachment to them rather than the millions of people around the world we will never meet.

Not that the death of anyone isn't sad, but it's all about context. People will mourn something that they know (even if it's on a superficial level), but won't think twice about the fact that death occurs every day. Everyone does this.

It's not hypocritical or "idol worship" :)sarcastic), it's just an apparent part of human nature. Whether one likes it or not.
