I hope Clint Eastwood doesn't die.
It was bad enuf when Eli Wallach & James Garner went to that big gun fight in the sky.
(I hear that James weaseled his way out of the fight....my kinda guy.)

We don't mourn for each unfotunate homeless person who dies or each orphan that is abused for practical reasons. If we did, we'd never do anything else. Think about it. With all those deaths we'd be in a constant state of mourning. We'd get nothing done (you know, like trying to do something about it)

Williams was familiar and he was also a symbol for many people. Not only that, he did touch peoples lives on a very real level. His charity work and reputation with fans and random people he met shows that even though he was deeply in pain, he was still generous and kind. He's the type of person people wanted to be (minus the drug addictions, of course). Also his death hit home hard because of the dismal state of the mental health care system in this country. Suddenly, this funny, generous person gives in to his pain even though he could have afforded the best care in the world. The stigma of mental illness killed him. For those who suffer with depression and mental illness, his death is VERY personal and meaningful.

We should be sad about the homeless people who die on the street (many of whom have mental illness too), but that's a huge problem that is better served by our actions than our tears. If you find it deplorable that people would actually mourn a person that they are familiar with (however illusory), rather then the homeless, why are you online complaining about it and not out doing something about it?

And, if you ARE doing something about it ( charity work etc), you're still wasting your time on here claiming moral superiority. There's a lot of people to help.

You can't make lasting change by shaming people. Stop waiting for people to feel guilty enough to do the right thing and just do it. Those whose hearts can be moved will be moved, I promise.

Well I mean I care if anyone dies. Thinking about all the death happening all around us all the time can make me feel dreadfully sad...

I don't. If I don't know ya, see ya! Everybody dies eventually. I strictly give a crap about the people I love, and whomever is pitching for the Yankees.

What is really interesting about this whole thread is that Robin Williams was a big part of Comic Relief: Which helped the homeless.
