Redefining Marriage

Magic Man

Reaper of Conversation
Inspite of all the changes that the legal definition of marriage has gone through, the constant between them can't really be ignored. Throughout time, one thing has never changed: "man and woman." Religious and racial prohibitions may have collapsed, but the underlying definition of marriage--the one constant--has always been the union of man and woman.

And some day we'll be saying the same thing- the underlying definition of marriage hasn't changed- it is the union of two people.

If it were that way from the beginning the human race would not exist because THE ONLY WAY for humans to reproduce is heterosexually.

So, you're saying that the only reason that we reproduce is because we force ourselves to marry people of the opposite sex?

I don't understand. How would allowing same-sex marriages from the beginning of time cause us to be extinct? Are we all just repressed homosexuals? you really don't think that at least some, if not most, people would still choose to have sex with people of the opposite gender and procreate?

Where are they today? How are they doing? How long have they lasted?

No major society throughout all of history has accepted anything other than man-woman marriage. Only isolated pockets practiced homosexual marriage.

Um...we've been over this before. Several major societies throughout history have accepted and supported homosexuality. There are several current ones which do. Canada is a great example, but there are others just as prominent.

I've never understood the math in this argument. Throughout history there has always been significantly more heterosexuals. I doubt our existence was ever threatened by homosexuality.

then move to greece and stop complaining already GEEZE
Why don't you move to a fascist state, and then you won't even have to listen to such heresy?

I believe that Storm has every right to live here in the USA, and speak openly of her dissenting views.

Call me an American.

psst, TVOR - I'm a woman. :D

Well, don't I have egg on my face?

Sorry about that. In my original post, I mistakenly thought that madhatter was referring to a post by Father Heathen. When I realized it was in reference to your post, I went back and changed "Father Heathen" to "Storm". Obviously, I failed to change the reference to gender later in the post.

For the second time in one day, I offer an apology.

My ancestors culture still exists... We aren't a world power... but we never wanted to be. Survival is enough.

Look I understand some religions having issues with homosexuality.... that's fine, don't marry homosexuals. But my culture, my faith have no problems with it. Let us live our lives in freedom, peace and love.

We won't force you to do something you don't believe in, if you don't force us to not do something we believe in.

That is the beauty of America... freedom.

You may not like my wife and I being married but that's fine. I'm not LDS and I didn't get married in the temple. Nor would I ever expect to. And that is fine too.
But mine and my wife's religions had no problem with my wife and I and gladly married us. And there was no 'redefining' anything.

There is the beauty of America at work. Both groups have the freedom to follow the dictates of their soul.

This has to be one of my all time favorite posts on RF.

I can't frubal it, but in the big picture, frubals wouldn't really do it justice anyway.

She can speak openly of her views i don't care, But if you REALLY want to marry someone of the same sex, go somewhere it's allowed. That simple.

just like underage drinking. People can't drink in the US till 21, so they go to Canada and drink when they are 19.

If you can't tolerate the laws, move.
