Rejecting original sin

Actually, while on the subject of original sin- are there any Christian denominations that reject the concept?

We do. This doctrine has its origins in pagan religion, and was introduced to the Catholic Church by the second century Catholic writer Irenaeus. Augustine, who, before his conversion to Catholicism, was a Manichaean, later cemented it into the Catholic dogma.

Still, why should Adam's unholiness be passed to us?
It was a fundamental change in nature, and we inherit our natures from our parents.

if Christ died for the sins of man, why is there still an Original Sin?
Because Original Sin isn't a sin.

As I quoted from the CCC in post #35 Original sin is "sin" only in an analogical sense... it is a state, not an act.

This kind of terminology drives me nuts! What the heck is a sinful state? Would you sit a 4-year-old down in front of you and say, "You're a liar!" if he hadn't lied? Would you say, "You're a thief!" if he hadn't stolen something? Of course not! How can a person be in a sinful state for no other reason than that he had the potential to do something?

Indeed...

How can a person be in a sinful state for no other reason than that he had the potential to do something?
Not a "sinful" state, there is no personal fault... it is a fallen state, a lack of the holiness man was originally created with.

Gotcha! A fallen state. I can go along with that.
I suspected you would ;)

Most disagreement stems not from the actual doctrine, but the name "Original Sin"...
