Religion: What is it?

Most of us "religious types" don't think that, fortunately. Although, I'm not really sure what a "religious type" is, given there are tens of thousands of religions. It'd be pretty hard for them all to be compressed into a single type.

Funny story - I actually invited Mormon ware-hawkers to speak with me once. Scheduled an appointment and everything. They were a no-show. They appeared later, apologized, and we re-scheduled. The were a no-show again. The third time they came to re-schedule, I didn't answer the door. Proselytizing fail... lol. :D
Types are hierarchal.

Religious type = any one that identifies as religious.

I've heard that several belief systems had to get governments to allow them to use the term 'religion' to describe themselves, just to get rights. For example, land is zoned 'for religious use' and if Hindus, Taoist, Buddhists, etc., say they aren't a religion, then they weren't allowed to apply for that land, and get the local government bonuses that went with it.
That is one reason why I disapprove of religion-based exceptions. They require the government to meddle into decreeing what should be considered religious, and that causes a lot more problems than it solves.
