This message board is generally extremely accepting and respectful to other religions. But, is there any religion that you strongly reject? Is it the religion you converted from you reject? Is it a religion that is the exact opposite of your own (like theists/non-theists)?

That's a hard question to answer. I believe all religions have some truth and wisdom. I have no problem taking a quote or verse from any religion and applying to my life if there is something that I can learn from it. Obviously, I don't identify as all religions, but as Unitarian Universalist, which has this same philosophy of learning from and honoring all wisdom no matter where it comes from.

I do reject the way some practice certain religions, but I don't reject the religion itself because I think I can learn something from every religion, and I don't have to be a follower to benefit from its knowledge.

So, I'm going to flip the question and say that besides UUism, the religion I identify with most is Buddhism and all the rest are distant second.

I think every religion is valid. It is up to each individual to work and study to get to the deepest meanings of the teachings. I think to know only one religion is to know no religion. They all work together. Zen helped me understand Christianity on a different level. I think some people reject religion because of what others have told them, rather than digging in and interpreting for themselves. In many cases we can't even trust the minister's interpretation. I love the wisdom and the different ways of portraying it.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I've never seen theists and non-theists as being the opposite of one another. I think atheism, and the journey that people take to get there, brings much wisdom, and I admire those that decide that that's the path for them. I know that atheists might have an entirely different opinion of theists, and that is their right, naturally.

While I checked that I didn't disagree with any of them, I do disagree with any religion that would create fear where none is warranted, have their members harm others, or one that would harm a person's self esteem. I couldn't think of any religion I percieve as doing that, only members of certain faiths, so I wouldn't come out against any specific path, just specific people and attitudes.

Very interested to see why someone chose Satanism, why? Is it because the name just scares you because you were told Satan is evil, or do you not like their beliefs?

As an Orthodox Christian, I reject everything but Orthodoxy...but at the same time, I can see varying levels of truth in all of them, as St. Justin Martyr said, the Logos works to reveal Himself to all men. As a result, I have taken this as to mention those I reject with especial force.

For that, I mentioned atheism first and Islam second.

That the way I look at it too, Feathers. It's not the religion itself. Most, if not all, religions at their heart are about love, peace and hope.... not fear. It's just some people's interpertations and agendas that bring that out and make it a part of their religious practice. Which I am very against, in any religion.

While I think it's fine to talk about what we don't agree with in other religions, and it can certainly be done in a respectful manner, I just want to remind everyone not to turn this into a religion bashing thread - all religions or a specific religion, it doesn't matter.

Carry on. :)

As several said previously, most religions have some truths in them or something that appeals and can be applied to whatever religion you happen to be. However, I said I would have to reject atheism because it is the complete antithesis to what I believe. I cannot accept that there is no God and this is just some big cosmic joke.

I also put that I reject Islam for a number of reasons although I'm still debating whether this is a knee jerk reaction as I've never studied the religion.

I voted for rejecting atheism; I win both ways. Since atheism is NOT a religion, I have offended no one! I t does not matter one iota to me what people believe in or disbelieve in-they are on their path; I am on mine.:)

I said I rejected christianity, islam, and satanism, but bear in mind I do not reject the religions. I only reject the fact that a belief in those religions is the superiority of man. I believe it is the opposite, spiritually. But in no way do I reject satanism because I think it is evil, that would be stupid of me. I also reject christianity and islam due to the arrogance seen by some of its followers. This also does not mean I reject the religion, only those who are arrogant about it.

well I believe that all religions hold some truth to them and that what works for me may not work for everyone. There is something in each religion that I like, just as there is something that I don't.
However as the quesion is 'what relgion do you reject', the only religion I have 'rejected' per say is Christianity. I was once a Christian but the religion didn't work for me (for several reasons) so I left it.
I guess that means that I 'rejected' it.

Very interesting results so far, I am seeing some trends.

Christianity seems to be the least tolerated overall.
Theists and especially Christians seem to reject atheism.
I am surprised that Satanism and Islam received so many votes. Lots of them are from theists, as well.
