Religious Ignorance.

Ill say again, im talking about the education system. Ill say it one more time, people do not know of ANY of this. I only know because of my parents, they try to teach me all sorts of differnt cultural beliefs and activities since i was little.

I know why people can't discuss religion--each person usually believes that his way is the only correct way (this appears to be true even with "non-religion"). Even the most broad minded person can be unbelievably narrow in his or her view of religion. Almost no one seems to want to admit that there may be more than one way to God so they dismiss all others but there own.

As a Christain , do you believe in
I'm not sure what your alluding to, but Jesus never made claims that there are multiple ways to the father, on the contrary, this was one of the reasons for his being persecuted ,by claiming he is the only way.
He was not ignorant of other relgions, idol worship, etc,but he did expose them for being false.

In today's society ,this would be prejudice, discriminatory, intolerent , lacking politcal correctness, he would be jailed and crucified alot faster in today's society,Jesus said ,I am the way the truth and the life no man ,comes to the father except through him. WOW!! that is a strong statement !!!

WOW! But thats stupid. Just becasue some man says that doesent make it so. Most people would think he is a loony if he existed in todays society. By him claiming he was the only way he is promoting rifts between all sorts of differnt society. Why can't differnt religions lead to god? Because Jesus said you can't? Thats a stupid arguement and would NEVER work on any intelligent person roli.

When Jesus said those things, yes it was true. I have to believe that or I would not be a Christian. But at the same time, He said it to the people He was talking to--to His followers and those who would become His followers--People who actually met Him face to face. Jesus never traveled to North America. He knew that in their life time that His apostles would never travel to any farther than they did. Would you want to send all those people in those times who died to "hell"? There is no way the Apostles would have been able to travel to Eastern Asia, to Northern Europe, to North America (which no one in those areas knew existed until Lief Erikson and Columbus), to Australia, to South America. It has been 2,000 years, and there are some places who never knew Jesus even existed. How many people, if they actually met Jesus face to face or their ancestors, would reject Him? That is a question that only God can answer. I am not God and I am not going to pretend that I know everything concerning God.
Right now, I am not ready to dismiss anyone's path to God. All I can say is I don't know.

Actually, Jesus would probably have had a better time in society today as far as I can see it. He certainly wouldn't have been killed for it, at least in a society such yours or mine. You have to remember, he was crucified, and people of a normal intelligence level spread the news of his death, over years, to encompass the globe. All of this was solely because "Jesus said so" I think people today have an easier time following one man speaking what is seen as "nonsense". Think about Charles Manson, David Koresh and the "Branch of Davidians". They were followed, and some followed to their deaths.

And for the record: These were normal people with normal intelligence levels, only looking for an answer out there :shout

Addressing the point at hand; What I have run into in America is an overwhelming amount of resources, even in the school systems. But, as someone pointed out earlier, It is not perceived by the school system that they are obligated to spoon-feed the information to the students INCLUDING information about Christianity (at least in my case). If you are interested in something, you have to go dig it out for yourself, I think.

Is it the governments job to teach people about religion?
Even in a sectarian (woops: meant to say secular) society?

wa:do

First, i have no clue what sectarian means. Secondly, yes. Humans (not all) do not have a want to learn about others, thir culture or faith. Not knowing leads to mistakes, some which leads to danger. It is the governents responsibility to keep their civillians safe. So ignorance is a block to the path of peace.

They would even crazier for following a man who thinks he can do that.

Yet people follow all kinds of different religious beliefs for what someone else think is absolutely insane. Hence the reason people believe different things; they think that someone else's beliefs are crazy. But I don't want to debate the sanity level of the people who believe in Christ on this very interesting thread on education policy.

Absolutely. But what I think has happened in America's case, anyway, is that there is such an enigma about breathing a word about religious things that, as someone has stated earlier, we are free from religion. It seems as though the only thing we can do, now, is dig for ourselves and come out on the other side.

I hardly think Americans are free from religion... :tsk:

Over 90% of Americans have a religious affiliation of one kind or another.

To claim that America is in some sort of religious jeopardy is IMHO silly.

I know. ;)

The British Isles are at least as religiously diverse as America. Just not so loud about it.
Over a million Muslims, 350,000 Jews, over 558,000 Hindus, 390,000 "jedi", 152,000 Buddhists and so on.
Not to shabby.

And I find that most people love to learn about other people and other cultures... that why travel is such a booming industry.

woopsie... I meant to say secular, not sectarian...

A secular society has no religion running the show.
The governments job is to keep you safe, yes... but its job isn't to peddle religion.
A civics course is as far as it should go.

Yes but not learning about other religons is ignorance. Not wanting to that it. Not knowing the difference between a hindy and a muslim can lead to hindus being racially abused wrongly. This could also result in physical harm.

Nice to see you come back on RF a lot more :)

Does this mean its ok to abuse muslims then(i don't think you meant that)

No, its wrong. But we suffer for anothers wrongdoings. I know i cannot blame a 10 year olds kids problems on some 67 year old martyr, but, thats just they way it is in the east.
