Response: Do you think that Donald Trump is a Christian?

Q: Do you think that Donald Trump is a Christian?

Based off of the evidence I've found online, I believe it's safe to say that Donald Trump is no where close to being a Christian. I've listed four main points that support my argument with evidence below each point.

Another Thought: Despite the overwhelming evidence against Donald Trump not being a Christian, why do American Evangelicals still support him?

Here is the full video report that brought up some valid points on why Evangelicals support Donald Trump. Why Do Evangelicals Support Donald Trump?

Four reasons why I believe
Donald Trump is not a Christian

A. Sexual Immorality

Over 20 sexual misconduct allegations, including rape from his ex-wife have been made against Trump. A tape recording of Donald bragging about all of his sexual assaults surfaced but he still denies it. He later dismisses the footage as just being "Locker room talk"

B. Personal Integrity

Because Donald Trump lies so obsessively, his critics are unable to keep up with them. Trump is barely able to finish one lie before he starts another one. His lies are so blatantly obvious that even his supporters make no effort in defending them.

C. The Need For Forgiveness

This one I found to be the most compelling out of all the evidence to support that Donald Trump is not a Christian.

In an interview, Trump was asked if he had ever asked God to forgive him of his sins. Here is his response:

"If I do something wrong, I think I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I take... you know, when we go in church and when I drink my little wine--which is about the only wine I drink and have my little cracker, I guess that's a form of asking for forgiveness."

His total lack of humility towards God and the death of His Son on the cross is unpardonable. There is no salvation for someone who cannot acknowledge their need for forgiveness.

D. The Bible

In one interview, Trump made the claim that the Bible was his favorite book but when he was asked to reference just one verse in the Bible, he refused to give one. Here is his response:

"I love the Bible. It is the greatest book of all time." -Donald

"I'm wondering what one or two of your most favorite Bible verses are and why." -Reporter

"I wouldn't want to get into it, because, to me, that's very personal." -Donald

Are you an Old Testament guy or a New Testament guy?" -Reporter

"Uh, probably.... equal." -Donald

Based off of his response it is unlikely that Donald Trump understands the difference between the Old and the New Testament

Donald Trump does not appear to be a Christian to me. I think that Joe Biden may be more religious, however slightly, than Donald Trump who seems to not be a Christian or interested in Christianity or the Bible or Christian ethics or anything really to do with Christianity. I think he is into "positive thinking", money making, and is basically a Gad/Mammon worshipper, with Zero interest in poverty, charity, any of the Christian values, any of the turning the other cheek, any of the meekness, none of it. I think Donald Trump is pretty darn open about how he is and who he is, which is flat out just obsessed with showiness, money, wealth shows, prestige, big displays of wealth, bragging, gold everywhere to excess. I mean there is just no way in heck to convince anyone who has followed his activities and career and statements to make it appear that he is any sort of a serious Christian or ever was. I think he might believe in some sort of God or Power, but not really the Christian stuff in particular. I think that Jimmy Carter may be more sincerely religious, and Joe Biden is probably just a tad on the religious side in comparison to Donald Trump who seems like he is never thinking of anything religious except maybe slightly superstitious in the sense of "power of positive thinking" type stuff.

Christians keep saying "we are all sinners", and "Christians are not perfect, just forgiven". Therefore, acting in ways that support those claims such as the above, are not, and cannot be indicators that someone is not Christian. You cannot acknowledge that Christians are imperfect and sinners in one breath, then claim that someone is not a Christian because he is imperfect and a sinner.

"If I do something wrong, I think I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I take... you know, when we go in church and when I drink my little wine--which is about the only wine I drink and have my little cracker, I guess that's a form of asking for forgiveness."

While that statement is an indicator that Trump is not a Christian, it is not his lack of humility that is key. It is the fact that he has some passing familiarity with the activities around Communion, but no idea of its function or the substance of its significance.
Based off of his response it is unlikely that Donald Trump understands the difference between the Old and the New Testament
Based on his response he has little knowledge of the of the content of the Bible. But considering the fact that this was the case for most Christians for most of the history of Christianity, this does not disqualify him.

I thought christianity was someone who takes up jesus christ as their lord and savior and forgiven of their sins without "deeds" having a play in one's salvation (one being christian)?

Being or not being Christian is also contingent on what other Christians think. This, of course, is directly contrary to Matthew 7:1-2 Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. ;)

I see nothing wrong with that.
Me neither, but those aren't typical Christian values, except there is a new breed of "prosperity Christians" but I don't think he is even one of them. I worship Mammon / Pluto myself, so its no big deal that he loves Money and Wealth and shows off, I love showing off myself, but its not typical for Christians and was traditionally sort of shunned and also seems sort of spoken against in the New Testament.

Oh, I certainly don't believe he's a Christian, either.

Q: Do you think that Donald Trump is a Christian?
In his own mind I think he is sincere. What it looks like to you are I is only a matter of practicality. I think we don't need to decide for ourselves whether he is a Christian or not. It would be unchristian probably.

Let me ask you this: Are you a fairly decent person in your own mind? How do you seem to the pig who makes your breakfast bacon and your pepperoni, though? Its just a pig, but in your own mind you are good while in that pigs mind you aren't. In Trump's mind he's doing his darndest to do whatever he thinks is best. That is what people generally do. Al Capone is an example of someone nobody thought was good, but he though that he was. Its fairly typical for evil people to think they are good and good people to think they are evil.

Mark Twain wrote a book about a little white boy named Huckleberry Finn, and Huckleberry though of himself as very naughty for freeing a slave. That, is, he being good thought he was evil. Many other people in the story thinking themselves to be good do evil.

So what is the Christian position? It is probably to say that God looks upon the heart, and we can only see what is on the outside. We have many scriptural references to this teaching and also Jesus parables about the wheat and the tares, his parable about the bridesmaids with oil and no oil, the sheep thinking themselves good and the goats thinking themselves evil. There are other parables, too; and almost every NT author writes to us about not being judgmental. Therefore the Christian position appears to be that we don't judge whether someone actually *is* a Christian or not.

There’s an Eastern Orthodox saying that the worst sinners think they are the greatest saints, but the greatest saints know they are the worst sinners.

As we said in another thread, Trump is a fake Christian, someone who calls themselves a Christian, but doesn't follow or believe in Christ at all.

At what age or mental maturity do you think a child could be called a Christian? How much knowledge of the bible does someone need to be called a Christian? How many lies per day are allowed for a Christian? Children don't feel shame to be naked before puberty, is that an excluding criterion?
