Response: Do you think that Donald Trump is a Christian?

One thing that puzzles me about Trump is that despite being a billionaire, he is perceived as miserly and stingy when it comes to charity and philanthropy.

I think he would count negatively on that factor in Christianity, especially considering what Christ had said with respect to charity and rich men.

But what puzzles me is that he was able to get elected as president even without making a name for himself in philanthropy, and being perceived as a miser. Most people would at least try to make some waves in charity before standing for elections to get some goodwill going for them.

Q: Do you think that Donald Trump is a Christian?

Based off of the evidence I've found online, I believe it's safe to say that Donald Trump is no where close to being a Christian. I've listed four main points that support my argument with evidence below each point.

Another Thought: Despite the overwhelming evidence against Donald Trump not being a Christian, why do American Evangelicals still support him?

Here is the full video report that brought up some valid points on why Evangelicals support Donald Trump. Why Do Evangelicals Support Donald Trump?

Four reasons why I believe
Donald Trump is not a Christian

A. Sexual Immorality

Over 20 sexual misconduct allegations, including rape from his ex-wife have been made against Trump. A tape recording of Donald bragging about all of his sexual assaults surfaced but he still denies it. He later dismisses the footage as just being "Locker room talk"

B. Personal Integrity

Because Donald Trump lies so obsessively, his critics are unable to keep up with them. Trump is barely able to finish one lie before he starts another one. His lies are so blatantly obvious that even his supporters make no effort in defending them.

C. The Need For Forgiveness

This one I found to be the most compelling out of all the evidence to support that Donald Trump is not a Christian.

In an interview, Trump was asked if he had ever asked God to forgive him of his sins. Here is his response:

"If I do something wrong, I think I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I take... you know, when we go in church and when I drink my little wine--which is about the only wine I drink and have my little cracker, I guess that's a form of asking for forgiveness."

His total lack of humility towards God and the death of His Son on the cross is unpardonable. There is no salvation for someone who cannot acknowledge their need for forgiveness.

D. The Bible

In one interview, Trump made the claim that the Bible was his favorite book but when he was asked to reference just one verse in the Bible, he refused to give one. Here is his response:

"I love the Bible. It is the greatest book of all time." -Donald

"I'm wondering what one or two of your most favorite Bible verses are and why." -Reporter

"I wouldn't want to get into it, because, to me, that's very personal." -Donald

Are you an Old Testament guy or a New Testament guy?" -Reporter

"Uh, probably.... equal." -Donald

Based off of his response it is unlikely that Donald Trump understands the difference between the Old and the New Testament

I know plenty of Christians who meet some or all of that criteria, in fact it has become part of my personal definition of a christian.

It is not up to christian or anyone else to judge anothers faith

If he claims/proclaims that he is a Christian, then he is a Christian, whether he is a good/bad/ignorant Christian is a different aspect of the matter . Nobody can decide about another person's religion for him. It is a basic human right. Right, please?

I've never heard Trump claim to be a Christian

And this is one of the problems with Christianity, and would be a problem with any religion in which "belief in God" is held as one of the highest virtues. Literally anyone can simply and easily state that they "believe in God." ANYONE. And yes, the same can be said for atheism and "disbelief in God" - but atheism doesn't profess itself to be this grand, all-encompassing, profound thing. And there is the huge difference. There are all sorts of things you want to assign to someone who calls themselves a "Christian." All sorts of things you want to expect from them, or to label them with, or to hold their feet to the fire over - but really, you have ZERO AUTHORITY to do so. No atheist that I know would attempt to steer any other atheist toward what they felt were "atheistic principles." There are atheists that feel they can do this - but they are, in that moment of action, morons of the highest order, because there are no such principles - save one - don't believe. That's it. Christianity isn't like this, and you want to all decide what everyone else's principles should be. "Just read the book" you say... what a bunch of baloney.

Why do you think that to support a President the American Evangelical must believe he is a Christian? Do you think the American Evangelical votes strictly on faith lines?

Since Jesus' main message was love of God and neighbor, I simply cannot conclude that Trump buys into that, thus I have to answer "no", sorry to say. His last two pastors both say he's never attended even one service.

How about his supporters? Would the same hold true for them?

(Particularly now, after seeing his track record over the last 4 years)

Why Do Evangelicals Support Donald Trump?

video claims to be from a "Pentecostal Fundamentalist Evangelical" (9:18)
who says he left the US because he thinks God is going to punish the US:
(11:28)
"If God does not destroy America, and that includes you hypocrites [Evangelicals], He owes Sodom and Gomorrah an apology."
and he encourages people in America to do everything they can to get out before God punishes the US.

That video... makes me glad that Trump is a normal religious person as opposed to someone walking around making outlandish religious claims or even worse a religious extremist.

Trump attends Church, supports religious rights through executive orders, and backs Israel for what appears to be religious reasons. His son Barron Trump was baptized at birth in 2006 (but, hey, maybe that was all Melania and not Trump). I suppose it's possible that "it's all a show" and he's not really a Christian, but then:
Does it matter?

Save pointless debate, how does whether or not he's a Christian affect anyone but Donald Trump?

That said:
Being or not being Christian is also contingent on what other Christians think. This, of course, is directly contrary to Matthew 7:1-2 Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. ;)

According to Pew Research...
Most Americans don’t see Trump as religious; fewer than half say they think he’s Christian

 Oh no! The sky is falling! Get out while you can! o_O

He's every much a Christian as all of the Christians who supported him for president. In both cases Christianity is nothing more than an outfit they put on in order to selfishly advance their own personal agendas

...why do American Evangelicals still support him?...

I am not American Evangelical, but I support Trump because he seems to be anti-war and pro-life. I don’t think he is perfect, but not many are. And I think actions matter more than words. Hypocrite “Christian” who speaks beautifully is no good, if he does and supports evil things.
