If the girls don't win, the boys will not...Okay, who wants to make a bet? Boys or girls will win?
If the girls don't win, the boys will not...
In person I am often confused with being a Christian. With just online text communication, I'm more often to be assumed to be a male. However, I couldn't possibly me mistaken as male in person.
I'm really surprised at the imbalance; thought it would be closer. Excellent idea.Hey everyone.
I am curious to know whether there is an imbalance between men and women on the forums and how many members reject the "binary" definition of gender as either male or female.
Let's go, buddy!Boys are in the lead with 30 points? C'mon girls, don't let them win... If you can, wahaha!
(I see flying high heel shoes coming!)

As a voluntary-response poll with absolutely no criteria for population and sample selection, the results are in no way representative of RF in general or as a whole. What we have is: Among those who were interested enough to (1) read the OP and (2) respond to the poll, we find that of 26,000+ members, 48 have chosen to self-select by responding, which is 0.18 percent...
Yes, but looking through this thread, I can think of at least a dozen more females who regularly post who apparently haven't participated in this yet, as well as a few others who might pick the non-binary option...and a larger number of contributors that I don't know their gender or preference...This might be the kind of poll that certain types self-select out by not participating/responding.Thanks. It's interesting to see because imbalances in membership can tell you about biases or preferences in content. I was on another forum and there was a similar poll done which showed a male bias. I am surprised because I thought RF was much more representative. (I would have guessed 60% male so I was still out quite a bit.)
In terms of statistics that is spot on. However it is a useful to see into how active members affect content. Only a fraction of the 26,000+ registered members will actually be active. It is also more than possible it affects what is acceptable or not such as topics to discuss or what is taboo or acceptable in terms of what we can post. It doesn't automatically follow that a male dominated forum will have a bias in terms of subjects but it can hint at it. The larger the sample the less likely the imbalance is an abboration so even if it's not 100% reliable it is a useful insight.

In our profiles, we answer all kinds of questions: can't staff get the gross totals on things like gender, age, etc.?
I would say your poll didn't quite go as planned. Though there may be some more male members overall, just a quick glance will show RF isn't sausage-fest the results of your poll make it seem (especially earlier).Thanks. Curious, there are 26,000 plus members, but how many active members are there? As a voluntary-response poll with absolutely no criteria for population and sample selection, the results are in no way representative of RF in general or as a whole. Based on typically seeing that there are 30 to 40 members online at any given time, it can't be a huge number--if we assume one hour a day for the average regular user, it would work about to about 720 to 960. And there seems to be a handful who are on HOURS a day (not that I would know anyone like that, of course...)Curious, there are 26,000 plus members, but how many active members are there?
