Rituals

Regardless of your faith what sort of rituals do you practice?

My answer: I participate in prayer, communion and bible studies along with others

Do you think that ritual is important to your faith?

My answer: I think that it acts as a reinforcing agent to keep me strong in my faith

Tell me what you think...

I interpret a ritual somewhat differently than you have used in your op.
A ritual to me would be saying the same prayer, or singing the same song every day. My church doesn't take communion weekly, but view it as a special celebration. If we did it every time we had church it would be more of a ritual instead of a special occasion. Not saying that this is wrong, if that is how someone wants to worship I am not condemning it. It is whatever makes the believer happy... We always have different songs each service and nothing is ever programed most of our service is spontaneous and we try to follow what we feel is the leading of the Holy Spirit or God in our service. Sometimes it seems that God's presence is so stong that we have just ended up with a praise and worship service and the preacher felt no need to preach.....
So I can't say that my Bible reading or study is a ritual but as a time of closeness and reflection with God.
I don't really feel that rituals are needed, I like the spontaneous freedom that comes with worshipping according to how you feel at the time. It's a personal worship and different for everyone....
Prayer and faith keep me strong in my faith....

Dont you view prayer as a ritual because you repeat it weekly if not daily... Why do you feel that rituals are not needed regarding your faith?

No I don't view prayer as a ritual....It would be if I said the same prayer over and over.....When I pray, it is never the same prayer, it is spontaneous as if I were talking to a friend.....
I told you in my post that I like to have the freedom of being spontaneous in worship and not something that is programmed or scripted. I think a service should be led by God not written on a piece of paper Monday for next Sunday's service....That is not God leading the service but man......It is like lip service but the believers hearts are far from God.....Having a from of Godliness but denying the power of God....

Interesting... I find it fascinating the differences between how different sects of christianity view prayer... some catholics for example view prayer as a ritual and no other way... while i am not sure what sect of christianity you are i assume your not catholic... do you find it ritual to always celebrate the birth and death of jesus christ at the same time every year? or do you think that is more of cultural construction of our society?

We celebrate the tradition of the birth and the death of Jesus, but it doesn't seem like a ritual. Our celebration is always done in a different way each year...Many churches have a certain ritual or tradition that is done the same every year, ours is not that way.....That is why I enjoy our way of worship.....
