Royal Wedding Coverage

FlyingTeaPot

Irrational Rationalist. Educated Fool.
On the News yesterday they interviewed some Americans who were getting in place early so they could see the procession, apparently theres a lot Americans in London for the wedding, you are right though,i don't understand the world getting involved.
Yes, American people's fascination with British royalty is fascinating to me.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
What a bunch of wet blankets! :p

On to more important matters, like the following Facebook post:

In honor of the royal wedding on Fri, Use your royal name. Start with either Lord or Lady. Your 1st name is one of your grandparents' names. Your surname is the name of your 1st pet, double-barreled with the name of the street on which you grew up.

Which would make me: Lady Margaret Midnight of Olcott :curtsy:

Ahhh, then I'm Lady Winona Stonewall Jackson of Ranier

That's what I'm talking about, wasn't there some revolution or something so that we didn't care about the aristocrats :)

I'm fine with the wedding being a big thing, a news piece etc. I'm just not fine with not being able to use it for comedy.

Violet.
Anyone can make fun of it all they like but its a bit much to expect them to let you use the BBCs live feed if they dont want you to, what do they want their cake and eat it.

Crack jokes and parody it who cares but i suspect its copyrighted and they can let who they want have it, or buy it, whatever they do on these occasions.

Do the British people pay for the BBC,
just as they pay for the monarchy and wedding?......

:D

I can understand the importance of that, really. There is nothing wrong with cherishing one's history.

What i fail to see any point to though, is why keep the negative aspect of that tradition. I mean why does the concept of 'royal family' still having any form of value?

Who cares that a 'prince' is getting married for it to be such a big deal?

I mean if people basically see them as some form of cute things from the past, i guess thats not such a big deal.

But if they have any form of power or authority, thats not good. As the very concept of monarchy is pretty much an insult.

I dont expect you to understand British traditions, mainly because they are ours not yours. and why is our Queen an insult but a Caliph isnt? Oh lets not go there on this thread eh! LOL

Maybe but perhaps its because the revolution was by Brits from Brits that there still is a certain fascination for the old country.

Throughout American history, English immigrants and their descendants have been prominent in every level of government and in every aspect of American life. Eight of the first ten American presidents and more than that proportion of the 42 presidents, as well as the majority of sitting congressmen and congresswomen, are descended from English ancestors. The descendants of English expatriates are so numerous and so well integrated in American life that it is impossible to identify all of them. While they are the third largest ethnic nationality self reported in the 1990 census, they retain such a pervasive representation at every level of national and state government that, on any list of American senators, Supreme Court judges, governors, or legislators, they would constitute a plurality if not an outright majority.[37] Today it is estimated that over 80 million Americans are of English ancestry
English American - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Recent studies state that there is between 30-40 million Americans who claim Scottish heritage in the United States.

In the 2008 US Census community survey, an estimated 1.98 million Americans had Welsh ancestry,

an additional 1.2% (3.5 million people) identified more specifically with "Scotch Irish" ancestry.

Yes folks, the door is always open if you want to come home:)

You don't see any problem with inherited rule or power?

Like i said i can understand the tradition, just don't understand why keep the negative aspect of it.

As far as caliph, who said i think a Caliph should exist today? Also, there is no inherited rule in this concept.

Well, those crazy kids have gone and done it.

Beautiful dress, Miss Kate!

No, I don't think that works well :(

It was a beautiful wedding, I enjoyed watching.

Now I want the satirical commentary :p

This however, is a ridiculous look - but not one that is unexpected considering the source. Mrs Beckham, you goon, lose the hat!

What power?

I'm referring to the concept of monarchy.

and whats the negative aspect of it?

The negative aspect of that tradition, which is giving any value to the 'royal family' aside from a historical view may be, or like i said seeing them as a nice reminder of older times, aside from that, any extra value given to them is a negative.

Is this completely out of line? I was really looking forward to watching the satire....

''For a monarchy to be issuing decrees about how the media should cover them seems quite out of keeping with modern democratic times … but I suppose that's exactly what the monarchy is."

The Chasers, a popular satirical group, were going to perform a live satirical commentary on ABC here in Australia, of the Royal Wedding of William and Kate. But it has been cancelled.

"Just two days before the wedding, conditions issued by Associated Press Television News said footage of the ceremony from Westminster Abbey could not be used "in any drama, comedy, satirical or similar entertainment program or content".

Hey Madhuri!

Much and all as I appreciate the comic genius of the 'Chaser Team' and dearly anticipated a Royal Wedding repeat of something like this-

YouTube - Chasers - Osama

Perhaps one of the boys could have dressed as the bride and got as far as the altar?
Or worse?......further?...................the honeymoon?:eek::sorry1:

Nothing......NOTHING....the Chaser guys could come up with would have been funnier than the real live footage of 'Chuckers' (prince Charles) walking into Westminster Cathedral... wiping his nose between thumb and forefinger and then immediately offering his snotty hand to shake to a gold bedecked dignitary of the Church of England!:clap:yes:

What a Hoot....in every sense.

My Daughter cried in disbelief- “Oh! He didn’t!....Oh he >DID<!”

My wife laughed so hard she snorted her Champaign.

Ahhhhh ‘The House of Windsor’....classic comedy at every turn....and >still< a family one would move continents to avoid!:D
