What he was that matters is that he was someone who wanted to kill Trump, had easy access to weapons, and Trump has normalized violence. Whether that was because he wanted to prevent a wannabe dictator from desecrating his country again or due to schizophrenic delusions or something else doesn't matter.
Twice now, Trump has been the target rather than the people he intends his stochastic terror to victimize. Along with incessant rage, it's likely that he lives in fear himself now for the first time whenever he goes outside knowing how easy it is to take a shot at him, how much he is loathed by so many, and how easy it is to get a gun and get close enough to him to kill him with it.
